Before any work begins, lines must be isolated, tested, and properly grounded. These steps are critical to protecting our crews and the public from electrical hazards. Electricity doesn’t forgive mistakes, and taking the time to follow proper procedures ensures everyone goes home safe at the end of the day.
Another hazard that is often overlooked is stored energy. When a tree or other object is resting on a line, it can hold tension and energy that may release unexpectedly once it’s moved. Without proper isolation, testing, and grounding, that stored energy can turn into a serious hazard in seconds.

When crews are working near roadways, the right traffic control plan protects not only our linemen but also the traveling public. Cones, signs, flaggers, and properly positioned equipment create a safe work zone that allows crews to focus on the job at hand.
