Photo from this morning of some perennial superstars in one of our gardens.
Decades of studying plants has led me to a pallet of perennials that function for as long as possible in the season so pollinators have what they need to complete their life cycle (and we can have some eye candy all year long too!).
We are certain to include plants that flower each week of the growing season, beginning in March with a strong focus on Tallamy's list of keystone plants.
We are really thinking about checking every box possible with our planting designs.
In this scene: the tall Goldenrod in the back is 'Fireworks', the short one is 'Golden Fleece'. Pink Aster right back is 'Purple Dome'. The white mist is Lesser Calamint. The red foliage in the center is Eastern Beebalm (M. bradburiana). 'Husker's Red' Penstemon in the foreground, there's some Blanket Flower in here, as well as Lamb's Ear, Sage, Rattlesnake Master, Little Bluestem, Rudbeckia, and yes more.
There's no room for weeds in this garden :))
