How do you install a drain that does not drain? Apparently you lay one foot of pipe into bare dirt, pour six inches of concrete over it, and call it a day.
That is what we found when we got called out to this commercial property. The drain was not working. When we opened up the concrete to find out why, we discovered approximately one foot of pipe that connected to absolutely nothing. No pea gravel. No tie-in to a catch basin. No drainage path at all. Just a short piece of pipe dumped into the ground with a concrete slab on top of it.
Here is what we did. Cut a trench through the concrete slab. Used a diamond hole saw to core into the existing catch basin. Ran new pipe with a proper connection so the water has somewhere to go. Broke out all the old concrete, hauled it off, and poured fresh concrete to finish it clean.
One foot of pipe into dirt is not a drain. This is a drain.
