The first picture is how I discovered my truck on Tuesday morning. Comparatively speaking, this was virtually empty from what I left in it on Monday night. Looking into my truck empty like this was devastating - shocking - it was hard to breathe. I cried a lot. I started my business almost 3 years ago and in an instant, I nearly lost it all.
The second picture was taken yesterday, about 24 hours after I had discovered the theft. Almost immediately, people began reaching out to let me borrow tools or provide me with extras they no longer needed. I took a look in the back of my truck and saw it filling back up again and was moved to tears. To rebuild seems like almost too much, but you all have been unbelievable, kind, and a consistent reminder that I am loved - that I am believed in - that I am not alone. I want to say thank you. Because of you, I am scheduled to start taking on jobs again on Monday. I will rebuild, slowly but surely.
As an update, the police investigation is ongoing and there are some encouraging leads. Unfortunately, I was not carrying the correct line of insurance and my claims have been denied. Moving forward, I have secured the right line of insurance, I am working on having my tools properly secured, and I recognize the mistake I made by having my tools so easily accessible. It was a critical mistake that will not be made again.
So many of you have reached out to ask how you may help. Here are a few ways:
1. If you or anyone you know is looking for a good, honest handyman. I would be happy to serve you. Any referrals or leads is a great way for my business to keep going! You can find contact info at my page: Make It Jake's Handyman Services
2. If I have worked for you in the past, and you would like to leave me a google review, that would be much appreciated. You can leave a review here: https://g.page/r/CZPaSETYxibhEAI/review
3. My cousin is working on a Go Fund Me page that will be live in the next day or two. If so inclined, any donation will help me get back on my feet and restore the business. I will post that link when it is live.
Again, I am so very grateful and reminded that we do not exist alone but in community/connection with one another. You have been such a pleasant reminder of this reality. You are loved and thank you.
