WHATS THE COST?
Insulate. Isolate. Every time.
This week, during hurricane restoration, our industry was reminded again how fast a "dead" line can become a live one. When the grid is being rebuilt at storm pace, with crews from all over, switching happening around the clock, and backfeed from generators, assumptions get people hurt.
Two habits stand between a lineworker and the worst day of their life:
Insulate: cover up. Rubber hoses, blankets, and line guards on everything within reach, energized or not. Cover-up is your barrier when something changes that you didn't expect.
Isolate: remove the source. Open the feed, verify the clearance, test for voltage, and install your grounds before you touch it. If you can't prove it's isolated, treat it as hot.
Storm work rewards speed, but no restoration timeline is worth a life. Slow down on the steps that matter, speak up when something doesn't add up, and back up the crew next to you.
To every lineworker out on this storm: we're thinking of you and your families. Work safe, and come home.
