Titan Solar, one of the largest solar companies in the U.S. closed its doors this month. This TIME magazine article sums up the trouble with many of these large solar installation companies, why there are so many consumer lawsuits, and why their business model ultimately fails. A licensed NABCEP PVIP Installation Professional would never put their weight on a solar panel. This can cause microbreaks in the solar cells inside the glass that are naked to the eye but will cause the panel initially to underperform and eventually fail completely. If you are interested in solar for your home, you should investigate potential installation companies thoroughly. Look at pictures of their systems, including Inverter and BOS (Balance of System) installations. Conduit runs are more than just aesthetics. It can reveal inexperience, poor planning, and an unprofessional installation, all of which can be used by state inspectors as reasons for a Failed Inspection.
