Some selections require more than good taste. They require planning, coordination, and the right team to bring them to life.
For this second-floor powder room, the client selected a 2cm marble slab for the floor. It is a beautiful material, but not a typical installation — especially when it needs to be lifted into place and installed in a way that aligns perfectly with the surrounding finished flooring.
Our team began preparing for finished floor elevations early, during the planning and floor system design phases. The main floor tile selected for this area was a large-format tile, which is typically thicker and requires a thicker setting material. That can bring the finished floor elevation to 1” or more. The powder room marble was 2cm, or approximately .79”, so adjustments had to be made to ensure both materials would finish flush at the door threshold.
From there, the logistics became just as important as the design. Construction Resources fabricated the stone and lifted it into place with their machine. The Hardwood Flooring and Tile Guys handled the install. To allow the slab to be laid on a horizontal plane and eased into place, our team temporarily removed the framing from the entry wall. Once the stone was released into the mud bed, the wall could be reframed, sound insulation completed, and drywall continued.
This is the part of custom home building that most people never see, but it is what makes the finished result possible.
At this level, luxury is not only about the selections. It is about understanding what those selections require, planning for them early, and executing them with precision.
