Before you start opening those windows to enjoy Georgia's cooler fall air, take a minute to check your screens.

Look for:

🔍 Tears or small holes
🔍 Loose edges
🔍 Gaps around the frame
🔍 Screens that don't fit tightly

Fresh fall air? Absolutely.

Leaves + debris + moisture = a pretty inviting setup for insects.

Fall is the perfect time to:

✔️ Clear leaves from gutters
✔️ Check that downspouts are flowing
✔️ Direct water away from the foundation
✔️ Look for standing water
✔️ Check nearby rooflines for activity

Your gutters have an important job.

Smokybrown roaches love moisture and sheltered environments, and around Georgia homes they may be found near gutters, rooflines, landscaping and other damp areas.

Translation:

That clogged gutter isn't just annoying.

It could be creating exactly the kind of environment pests appreciate.

Keep gutters clean, manage moisture around your home, and if the roaches decide to come inside anyway...

As cooler weather arrives, squirrels may investigate rooflines, vents and other openings while looking for protected places.

And once they're inside?

The Joro spider handled the cobwebs. 😂

Those beautiful fall leaves look great across the yard.

Piled against your foundation? Not so much.

Leaf piles can hold moisture and create sheltered areas where insects and other pests can hang out close to your home.

A little fall cleanup can go a long way:

🍂 Rake leaves away from the foundation
🌿 Keep landscaping from piling against the house
🪵 Move wood and debris away from exterior walls
👀 Watch for pest activity while you're cleaning

Enjoy the leaves. Just don't let the bugs enjoy them against your house.

One ant on the counter might not seem like much.

🐿️ Squirrels: “Nice attic.”
🦇 Bats: “Interesting roofline.”
