🍂 Should I remove old mulch before adding fresh mulch for fall?

Here's a tip! If your existing mulch is still in good condition, you may only need to loosen it up and add a fresh layer on top. But if it’s heavily decomposed, matted, moldy, or built up too thick, cleaning some of it out first can give your beds a better start.

Fall is a great time to clean up your landscape beds before the leaves start dropping and refresh them with mulch, pine straw, decorative rock, or other ground cover.

MYTH: Landscape rock is basically maintenance-free.

FACT: Rock is definitely low-maintenance, but it’s not no-maintenance. Leaves and debris can collect between stones, weeds can eventually find their way in, and rock may shift over time.

The key? Start with proper site prep, use the right material for the application, and plan for occasional upkeep.
