On today's we'd like to introduce you to Maurice, aka Mo' Gravy. In addition to being the world's friendliest and sweetest Dalmatian, he is also the most photogenic. Maurice even helped with clean-up! Well...clean-up of the electrician, anyway.

Today's involves a mystery! While visiting Taggart's home (Taggart being the beautiful yellow lab pictured here) one of the electrician's gloves went missing. We are stumped. Where could it be? What could have happened to it? The world may never know... Anyway, please enjoy these photos of Taggart and her glove which she definitely had long before we visited her home.

TL/DR: In-home saunas use more power than the average bedroom circuit can provide. It's best to have a dedicated circuit installed for saunas.

This client purchased a one-person in-home sauna. They plugged it into an outlet in their bedroom. They genuinely had no idea how much power they can use. This client was lucky, however, because the outlet failed and tripped a breaker. The breaker would not reset and they called us.

First, you need to know that most bedrooms are wired on a 15 amp circuit, and often more than one bedroom will be on the same circuit. Traditionally, bedrooms were meant for sleeping and didn't require much power. Even as technology advanced, we were still just watching TV, charging our cell phones, etc. Those things do not use much power.

Anything that generates heat will use a lot of electricity. Air fryers, microwaves, space heaters, and - you guessed it - in-home saunas! Your average space heater uses between 1200 and 1500 watts. 1500 watts equals one 15 amp circuit. So one space heater in one bedroom is about all that 15 amp circuit can manage. And remember, there will often be more than one bedroom sharing that circuit!

The average in-home sauna uses about 6000 watts while it's heating up, then down to 3000-4000 watts maintaining the temperature during use. Infrared saunas are a bit more energy efficient and will use between 1500-3000 watts, which, as mentioned above, is enough to overload one 15amp circuit.

If you're considering an in-home sauna, please look into having a dedicated circuit installed to ensure that you don't overload a circuit.

Loose outlets cannot be "fixed" with spray foam. Even the fly was shocked at this one. 🤦
