The road starts out in great condition! It looks solid... until the rain comes.
A pavement's joints are its weakest link where moisture enters, damage begins and failures compound.

That's why DOTs and local agencies use Void Reducing Asphalt Membrane (VRAM) to protect the most vulnerable part before small cracks become big problems. Insurance for a rainy day.

Beginning in 2016, ODOT has been evaluating the effectiveness of VRAM in extending the service life of longitudinal joints, one of the most pervasive trouble spots for pavement engineers. The agency now has more than 7 years of data from a series of carefully monitored test and control sections. For this set of pavements, the results show a clear performance difference that could change how agencies think about joint durability.
