We were fortunate enough to do some work for local schools this year. We did some minor restoration at Spoon River Valley, and some construction for a new addition at another local school.

It is a neat feeling to know we played a small part in maintaining schools that hundreds of kids will pass through.

We took on a barn foundation north of Fairview that just didn't want to give up. After this project we have added 12" reinforced CMU to the list entitled "Things our Foreman Mike complains about".

The original wall had been demolished and re-laid 20+ years ago, but the "new" wall was laid on a rubble/dirt footing. Eventually this caused the wall to fail and required a complete re-do. New footings were poured, an appropriate amount of bond beams and reinforcement added, new rough sawn white oak beams courtesy of Corsaw Hardwood Lumber, and a new wall that will last for another 100+ years.

And it gave us an excuse to buy a Cut-n-Break, so there's that.

The largest project we completed this year was at Western Illinois University. We did a building restoration for the Campus Heat Plant - a building said to have been built by the same ironworkers who built the Sears Tower.

There were thousands of square feet to tuckpoint, steam towers to work around, and many, many, MANY, roof elevations to deal with.

Continuing on our theme of masonry in miserable weather, here is another project we wrapped up early this year. This building houses an emergency backup generator for an Illinois State Police tower in Monmouth.

Things that made this job miserable:

-Snow
-Ice
-Rain
-Mud
-An architect that had a weird obsession with rebar and bond beams.
-Listening to our foreman, Mike, complain about the snow, ice, rain, mud, and architect for the duration of the project.
