Due to the rising cost of fuel, materials, time, and wear and tear on vehicles, Ala-Ten Plumbing, LLC will be enforcing our $125 diagnostic fee on every job.

We will no longer give plumbing estimates over the phone. The only way to accurately price plumbing work is by performing a proper inspection first.

For example:
A customer may call and say, “I just need a toilet replaced, and I already bought the toilet.” We could quote a basic install price, but once we arrive and remove the old toilet, we may find a broken closet fl**ge, damaged flooring, bad shutoff valve, or other issues that must be repaired before the toilet can be installed correctly.

At that point, the price changes — and nobody likes surprises.

At Ala-Ten Plumbing, LLC, we don’t believe in guesswork. We believe in doing the job right the first time, giving honest pricing, and making sure you know exactly what needs to be done before work begins.

Educational breakdown for homeowners and facility managers on how sewage pump diagnostics actually work:

We were called out for a sewage pump failure. Initial reading showed the pump pulling 116 amps — when this unit should normally run around 39 amps. That kind of spike usually indicates a clog, seized impeller, or discharge blockage.

Step 1: Verified electrical loadStep 2: Pulled the pump from the pitNo visible clog. Impeller was free-spinning. Tested outside the pit and amp draw returned to normal (~39 amps). That told us the pump itself was NOT the problem.

Reinstalled the pump and the amps started climbing again. That meant the restriction was somewhere in the system — not the pump.

Next step was checking the mechanical side of the discharge system. We removed the mechanical end cap and still had no flow. Amp draw continued creeping up, confirming the pump was pushing against resistance.

We then opened the top of the check valve assembly and found the real issue:The gate inside the 6” valve had dropped internally, blocking discharge flow.

From the outside, everything looked normal. No obvious failure. But internally, the valve was acting like a closed wall.

We replaced the 6” gate valve, reassembled the system, and the pump returned to normal operation immediately.

Final takeaway:Sewage pump problems are rarely “just a bad pump.” Proper diagnostics require checking electrical load, mechanical operation, and the entire discharge path. If we had guessed and just replaced the pump, the problem would have remained — and the client would have spent tens of thousands unnecessarily.

This is why sewage systems are specialty work. Diagnosis matters more than guessing.

Getting new pit drilled while waiting on FRP wet well to be shipped in. This will be the new seawge lift station for 185 homes that pumps 5-1/2 miles to the city. Thanks to North Alabama Drilling for getting this handled

Hear Ye, Hear Ye!

I do not give estimates over the phone. Do not call and ask for a range. My response everytime will be, there are to many variables to give an accurate estimate range, I need to view the worksite to calculate materials and labor.

I do not do water heater swaps. When I install water heaters, I do them to code requirements, meaning,
Water heaters. Stand. Pan. Expansion tank (w/ wall bracket if needed). New isolation valve. T&p and pan drain will go to exterior. I replace everything, all the way to the wall. That is what you pay for. I do this because I carry a warranty on anything I touch so everything will be new!

I’m sorry that this upsets people but in order to give accurate pricing we will need to look at the worksite in person

Excuse my face. It looks like I’ve had a stroke and my face looks like a tomato. I’m ok though, I promise. Yesterday I received news that a company I did work for was refusing payment. I haven’t slept for 36 hours and I had a migraine all night. Unfortunately as a business owner we have to make decisions to do things that we normally wouldn’t do but at the same time we have a business to run and protect, a family to provide for, bills to pay, and after almost going bankrupt from doing nothing about it before, we decided we couldnt do it again. we are still trying to work our way out of the previous issues we had with others. Honestly it hurts my heart bc whether you’re a millionaire or in poverty we treat everyone the same. A lot of times it takes money out of my family’s pocket by operating this way but at least I can sleep decent at night knowing I helped everyone I could. Honestly the ones that always screw over people are the ones who can afford it while those that can’t will make you lunch, give you a hand, and still pay the bill. Thank you to all of our loyal customers!
