Edgewater Community Park at The Cottages was designed as a true gathering space for the neighborhood — a place where the land itself sets the tone. Curving paths lead residents from their front doors into an open green, connecting homes to a shared outdoor space rather than separating them from it.

At the center, paired seating areas offer a spot to pause, talk, and watch the neighborhood go by, while native grasses and plantings soften the space and root it in its surroundings. It's a park built for everyday moments — morning walks, evening conversations, kids playing on open lawn — all shaped by a thoughtful connection to the land.

A space for people. A space for place. 🌿

We create golf environments that are strategically compelling, visually striking, and grounded in the realities of construction and maintenance. Our approach blends routing, landform artistry, playability, and sustainability, delivering courses and practice facilities that perform for players while respecting the land.

Every hole starts with what's already there, the water, the native grasses, the natural contours, and we design with the land instead of against it. Bunkers echo the sandy soil, lakes double as habitat and drainage, and greens settle into the landform rather than fight it. That's the WA Design approach: strategy and beauty, working together, built to last.

Golden hour at Edgewater 🌅 There's something special about watching a site come into its own as the sun dips below the tree line. The planting plan is really settling in — ornamental grasses catching the evening light, fresh beds filling out around the clubhouse and courts, and the whole landscape starting to feel like it belongs.

Moments like this are why we love this work: the quiet atmosphere, the wildlife settling in for the evening, and watching this community grow one season at a time. 🌿

Not all weeds are harmless 🌿
Thistle may look beautiful in bloom—but they take over fast, choking out pastures and reducing land productivity.

Cutting, clearing, and hauling them out by hand isn’t glamorous work, but it’s the kind that keeps land healthy, resilient, and thriving.

This is land stewardship in action—boots on the ground, fresh air, and a team that shows up to do it right.

Medicinal gardens aren't just beautiful. They're functional.

Every plant in a healing garden earns its place.

Before a single seed goes in the ground, we ask: what does this space need to do?

🌿 Plant selection: Which species offer real medicinal, culinary, or therapeutic value?
🚶 Accessibility: Can this garden be walked, tended, and harvested by everyone who needs it?
👃 Sensory design: Scent, texture, and color aren't decoration here — they're part of the therapy.
📋 Layout & spacing: How do we group plants so they thrive together and stay easy to identify?

Out in Nebraska, this garden is proof that landscape design can heal as much as it can impress.

The most expensive landscape is the one you have to build twice. 💸

When people skip the design phase to "save money," they often end up spending three times as much fixing avoidable errors. Landscape architecture is about more than just a layout; it’s about technical foresight.

Avoid these common (and costly) pitfalls:
🥀 The Wrong Plant, Wrong Place: Plants that outgrow their space or die due to poor site matching.
🌊 Drainage Issues: Water directed toward your foundation instead of away from it.
📐 Scaling Errors: Patios and paths that are physically uncomfortable to use.
🧩 The Piecemeal Trap: A cluttered look that lacks a cohesive master plan.

A professional plan ensures your first investment is your only investment.

What began as a hand-rendered vision is now a completed suspension bridge at our Nebraska site. This project is a great example of how thoughtful design can respond directly to the landscape—creating a functional crossing while adding a memorable experience along the trail.

Seeing an idea move from sketch to construction is always rewarding, especially when the finished result feels naturally connected to its surroundings.

Some of the most important design decisions never show up in the final photos.

They happen early — walking a site, studying how water moves, noticing what’s already working before changing anything.

not “what can we build here?”
but “what is this land already trying to do?”

Because when you listen first, the design becomes clearer — and stronger.

It’s not about imposing a vision.
It’s about shaping something that belongs there.

That’s the difference between a project that looks good,
and one that lasts.

A well-designed trail system does more than move people through a landscape, it reveals the character of the land.

WA Design helped establish the trail system, working with the existing topography, mature tree canopy, and natural features to determine where each route should be carefully cut. The result is a trail network that feels purposeful, immersive, and naturally connected to the surrounding landscape.

The WA Design approach begins with listening to the land. Our vision is to create experiences that feel authentic to the site, preserving its natural beauty while improving access, exploration, and long-term stewardship.
