𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹-𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻: 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝗶𝗮𝗷𝘂𝗻’𝘀 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝘁 𝗝𝗗𝗚

Every internship is an opportunity to learn, but the most meaningful ones are about seeing how what you learn in the classroom comes to life in the real world.

Eight weeks ago, we welcomed Jiajun to Johnson Design Group as our summer intern. Last week, we said goodbye to an intern leaving with new skills, new perspectives, and a deeper understanding of what it takes to bring a project from concept to reality.

During his time at JDG, Jiajun gained hands-on experience with deadlines, coordination, codes, materials, client needs, and the countless details that move a commercial project forward. More importantly, he experienced the process firsthand—seeing how ideas evolve, decisions are made, and collaboration shapes the final result.

Some of his most memorable lessons happened outside the office. At a brick and stone showroom, he explored materials firsthand and discovered how much can be learned from seeing colors, textures, and patterns together. He even learned that brick manufacturers use enormous rollers to recreate the character of historically aged brick!

Throughout the summer, product representatives also shared their expertise, introducing Jiajun to everything from fiber cement panels to acoustic lighting fixtures and other materials that shape the performance and character of a space.

Beyond technical knowledge, Jiajun also learned the importance of asking questions, paying attention to details, communicating, and being part of a team. He shared how much he appreciated everyone at JDG being willing to teach and share their knowledge. We’re grateful he brought that same curiosity and enthusiasm to everything he did.

Last week, Warren Johnson and 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻 attended the 𝗕𝗶𝘀𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹 & 𝗠𝗶𝘅𝗲𝗱-𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁, joining developers, architects, brokers, and industry leaders for insightful discussions on the future of retail and mixed-use development.

One message stood out throughout the event: successful projects begin with understanding the people and communities they serve. From creative approaches to financing and development to designing authentic, walkable destinations, the conversations reinforced the importance of creating places that foster connection and lasting value.

We're grateful for the opportunity to learn, exchange ideas, and stay engaged with the evolving Houston commercial real estate community.

𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗕𝗶𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗲𝗿, 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻!🎂

For the past four years, she has been an integral part of the Johnson Design Group team, contributing her talent, professionalism, and keen eye for design to every project. We truly appreciate her hard work and the positive impact she continues to make each day.

Outside the office, Georgiana enjoys quiet afternoons with a good book, spending time in her garden, and making memories with her two loyal companions. When asked to describe herself, she shared these beautiful words:

On June 29, the 𝗝𝗗𝗚 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 had the opportunity to attend a 𝗟𝘂𝘅𝘂𝗿𝘆 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗟𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵 & 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 at the 𝗕𝗦𝗛 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 & 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 in Houston, alongside 𝗝𝗭 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻, featuring the latest innovations from 𝗕𝗼𝘀𝗰𝗵, 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗿, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝗮𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗮𝘂.

Designed specifically for architects, designers, and developers, this interactive, hands-on workshop provided a unique opportunity to experience the products beyond the showroom. Through expert presentations, live cooking demonstrations, and guided product tours, our team explored the engineering, craftsmanship, and performance that distinguish each brand.

One of our biggest takeaways was seeing the appliances in action. Watching the in-house chefs demonstrate the products gave us a better understanding of their real-world performance, while learning about flexible induction technology, compact kitchen solutions, and the different appliance collections broadened our perspective on designing for a variety of residential projects and budgets.

Beyond the products themselves, the workshop reinforced the value of collaboration and continuous learning, bringing design professionals together to exchange ideas and discover innovative solutions that can elevate future projects.

Celebrating 2 Years with Johnson Design Group! 🎉

Today, we're proud to celebrate Sheilla Padilla as she marks two years with JDG.

Over the past two years, she has continually expanded her role within the firm, taking on responsibilities that extend far beyond where she started. From accounting and financial operations to marketing, website management, proposal development, human resources, project management systems, and countless operational initiatives, she has consistently embraced new challenges with initiative, creativity, and a commitment to excellence.

As JDG has continued to grow, so has her impact. Her contributions have helped strengthen the systems, processes, and day-to-day operations that support our team and position the firm for continued success. Her ability to adapt, learn, and lead behind the scenes has made her an invaluable part of the company.

As part of this milestone, Sheilla now steps into her role as Executive Operations Manager— a reflection of the leadership, versatility, and impact she has brought to JDG over the past two years. What began as an administrative position has evolved into a role that supports nearly every facet of our operations, helping drive the firm forward as we continue to grow.

At JDG, we believe our success is built not only through thoughtful design, but through exceptional people. She exemplifies that belief through her dedication, creativity, collaborative spirit, and willingness to go above and beyond in everything she does.

Congratulations to Andrew Jasmine Jr., NCIDQ, RID on becoming a Registered Interior Designer (RID) in Texas! 🎉

We're proud to celebrate this exciting milestone after passing the Texas Registered Interior Designer exam this past April—a well-earned achievement that reflects years of dedication, perseverance, and passion for the profession.

When asked what inspired him to pursue interior design, Andrew shared:

"I've always had a creative bone—drawing from a young age—and over the years I've developed a love for problem-solving. Finding a field that combined those two has been incredibly fulfilling."

After completing his degree in January 2022, he spent several years working toward this goal. One of the biggest challenges wasn't the exam itself—it was staying mentally focused after a full day of problem-solving at work.

To Andrew, becoming a Registered Interior Designer means more than earning a credential:

"It represents a commitment to professionalism, advocating for the interior design field, and upholding my responsibility to the people who use the spaces I help create."

That commitment benefits every client. Registered Interior Designers place health, welfare, and well-being at the center of every design decision, ensuring spaces are safe, functional, and thoughtfully designed.

Andrew also shared his appreciation for those who supported him along the way:

"I want to thank my JDG peers and leaders for seeing the value in this pursuit and supporting me every step of the way."

Looking ahead, he hopes to combine his sports background with his passion for design by helping create high-performance locker rooms for professional sports teams.
