The air compressor at the office quit working this morning.

Most companies would wait for a repair technician to come in for the day.

At AES, two members of our office staff decided it was time to expand their knowledge and learn how to rebuild the motor themselves.

At this point, we're operating on equal parts determination, confidence, girl power, and YouTube.

I'm honestly not sure if this falls under professional development or unauthorized mechanical engineering, but we're about to find out.

If the compressor starts running again, we'll call it initiative.

If it catches fire, we'll call it continuing education.

I can't decide whether I should be proud, concerned, or checking to see if either of them secretly holds a technicians license.

Stay tuned. We're about to find out whether we saved a repair bill or created one. 🔧😂💪

🚨 Top 5 Things Destroying Your Drainfield 🚨

Your drainfield is one of the most expensive parts of your septic system to replace… and most failures are caused by homeowner habits.

Whether you have a conventional drainfield or a drip aerobic system, here are the biggest killers we see:

❌ 1. Grease & Food Waste
Grease hardens in pipes and soil. Your septic system is not a garbage disposal.

❌ 2. Driving or Parking Over the System
Cars, trucks, trailers, even heavy equipment — all compact the soil and crush components underneath.
Especially dangerous for drip systems with shallow lines.

❌ 3. Poor Drainage Around the Yard
Standing water and roof runoff can saturate the soil and keep your system from properly dispersing wastewater.

❌ 4. Harsh Chemicals
Bleach overload, paint, solvents, pesticides, and “miracle septic additives” can destroy the biological balance your system depends on.

❌ 5. Overloading the System
Too much water too fast = stressed system.
Multiple loads of laundry, long showers, guests, leaking toilets — it adds up quickly.

💡 Conventional systems rely on healthy soil absorption.
💡 Drip systems rely on precise low-volume distribution and oxygen exchange.

Both can fail early if abused.

A septic system is designed to handle wastewater — not neglect.

☀️ Pool Season Is Here… Don’t Do This.

Your septic system is NOT your drain for pool water.

Every year we see homeowners dump pool water into their septic system or directly onto their drainfield — and every year it causes problems.

Here’s why:

❌ Pool water adds a massive hydraulic overload to the system.
Your septic system is designed for normal household wastewater, not thousands of gallons dumped at once.

❌ Chlorine can disrupt the biological process your system depends on.
Especially in aerobic systems, excessive chemicals can affect treatment performance.

❌ Conventional and drip drainfields can become saturated fast.
Once the soil gets overloaded, wastewater has nowhere to go.

That can lead to:
• Slow drains
• Alarms going off
• Sewage odors
• Wet yards
• Premature drainfield failure

A drainfield replacement costs a whole lot more than properly draining a pool.

If you’re unsure where your pool water should go, ask before creating an expensive problem.

We’re deeply saddened to hear about the tragic accident involving an individual from another Houston septic company.

This industry is a small one, and news like this hits close to home. The work being done out in the field every day comes with real risks, and moments like this are a sobering reminder of that.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the individual’s family, coworkers, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. We also carry a deep sense of gratitude for the men and women on the ground doing this work every day.

Most septic problems don’t just “happen”…
they build over time from lack of maintenance.

Filters clog. Systems strain. Alarms get ignored.

Then one day — it’s expensive.

Stay ahead of it.

📋📐 Why Design & Permitting Matters in Texas

In Texas, a septic system isn’t just something you put in the ground — it must be properly designed, permitted, and approved before installation begins.

Here’s why that matters:

✔️ Soil Conditions Vary Widely
Clay, sandy loam, high water tables — Texas soils are not one-size-fits-all. Proper design ensures the system matches the property.

✔️ County Requirements Differ
Each county has its own regulations, review process, and inspection standards. What’s approved in one area may not be acceptable in another.

✔️ Gallons-Per-Day Calculations Matter
System size must match projected usage based on bedrooms and square footage for residential properties — or projected use based on the type of business and the estimated number of people using the facilities for commercial projects.

✔️ Setback & Property Line Requirements
Wells, creeks, easements, floodplains — all must be accounted for during design.

Proper engineering and permitting protect homeowners, builders, business owners, and long-term property value.

At AES Septic, we handle design, permitting, and installation in-house — ensuring compliance with Texas regulations and local jurisdiction requirements from start to finish.

Done right the first time.
