We won’t quote a concrete job without rebar included, even though it adds a few hundred dollars to the price. Some companies leave it out just to come in lower, and most homeowners never even know to ask.

Here’s what that shortcut actually costs: concrete is strong under pressure, weak under tension. The ground shifts constantly, freeze, heat, moisture. Without rebar, that movement cracks the slab, and once it starts, it doesn’t stop.

$300 now. Or an $8,000 tear-out in a few years. That’s really the whole decision.

A lot of “handyman” tile jobs get this wrong…

Cheap tile installs jam tiles tight together with barely any grout line, because it looks “cleaner” and hides bad cuts. Problem is, it’s not a style choice — it’s a structural one, and most homeowners never know the difference until it’s too late.

Here’s what that shortcut actually costs: tile expands and contracts with heat and moisture, especially in a bathroom. Without a proper grout gap (minimum 1/16”–1/8” depending on tile size), there’s no room for that movement. The tiles push against each other, and eventually they crack, pop up, or shear right off the wall.

At that point it’s not a grout fix. It’s ripping out the whole shower or floor, checking for water damage underneath, and starting over.

$0 saved by rushing the layout. Or a $6,000 full tear-out in a couple years. That’s really the whole decision.
