Sound on, stress off. 💧🧘

There’s something about the sound of flowing water that completely transforms a space. In this Houston courtyard, these Restoration Hardware water walls redefined the vibe, replacing neighborhood noise with continuous, soothing ambient sound.

Minimalist lines and moody charcoal tones paired with rich wood accents, soft foliage, and hand-painted pots create an outdoor living space made for slowing down after a long day.

Stop what you are doing and swipe to see the dramatic before-and-after transformation of this University Place backyard.

The true magic of this project? What used to be a standard detached garage and concrete driveway is now an open-air outdoor pavilion surrounded by vibrant garden beds, open green space and custom climbing-vine trellises.

The entire layout flows together using a hand-laid flagstone path that connects the main home, the wet-laid terrace patio, and the newly transformed pavilion. Along the perimeter, an 8-foot cedar privacy fence and custom hog-wire trellises give the entire space an intimate, secluded feel.

To complete the transformation, we re-graded the lawn, installed fresh St. Augustine sod framed with clean steel edging, and planted layered beds of Sweet Olive, Loropetalum, Beautyberry, and Dwarf Pittosporum nestled along river rock borders. Below ground, integrated French drains handle Texas rainwater, while low-voltage cast bronze LED lighting brings the pathways and garden to life after dark.

Precision in every layer. From the stone edging to the warm glow of the path lights, it’s the “little things” that create a big impact. ✨

POV: You just upgraded your entire property. ✨

A quick walkthrough of this complete front-to-back transformation. We focused on creating a seamless transition, starting with a reimagined front walkway and a custom paver pathway that leads you through the side gate and straight into the heart of the backyard.

This space was built for it all, from Tuesday night grilling after soccer practice to hosting the whole crew for weekend gatherings.

It’s the details you don’t always see, like the precision in the stonework and the strategic lighting, that make the biggest difference in how an outdoor space feels. Ready to walk into a backyard like this?

There is a reason our clients keep coming back to IPE wood for their outdoor spaces, and it’s not just because of how beautiful it is. 🤎

IPE (pronounced “ee-pay”) is a Brazilian hardwood that is naturally resistant to rot, mold, insects, and moisture with zero chemical treatments needed. It is so dense it literally sinks in water, and with minimal maintenance, it can last 50+ years. While other materials warp, crack, and fade after a few seasons, IPE just keeps going.

Yes, it’s an investment. IPE is slow-growing, responsibly harvested, and requires serious craftsmanship to work with (a moment for the radius cut and the mitered corners on the custom built in bench and deck we built for our clients😮‍💨). But when you factor in the lifespan, that it is incredibly low maintenance, and the rich natural beauty that only gets better with age, it pays for itself many times over.

From pool decks to custom outdoor furniture, this is the material we recommend when our clients want something that looks stunning AND stands the test of time. 🌿

Courtyards are some of our favorite outdoor spaces to design and build. A well designed courtyard works because it feels effortless, connected to the home, and meant to be lived in.

This custom courtyard features a built in Ipe bench, Lueders limestone patio made with Austin limestone, and Mexican beach pebbles to soften the geometry and add texture underfoot. A teakwood fire pit anchors the space, while butterfly iris and liriope bring movement and greenery. Ground and path lighting keep the courtyard usable after dark, and these beautiful fountains from Restoration Hardware add sound, privacy, and a calm, immersive feel.

A hard freeze is different than a frost, and your plants need a different approach.

During a hard freeze, the goal isn’t to block cold air.

It is to retain the warmth already held in the ground.

Plant covers work by trapping soil heat, not by keeping cold out. Thicker materials provide better insulation and help slow heat loss overnight.

Whatever material you use, it must be secured to the ground. Use stakes, bricks, or rocks to seal in warmth.

If you choose plastic or tarps, remove them once temperatures rise. Left on too long, they can trap moisture and suffocate plants.

A few small steps can make a big difference when temperatures drop.

A pool is a great feature on its own, but the landscape design is what actually turns it into a retreat.

For this Houston yard, we used custom IPE wood and turf inlays to bridge the gap between the home’s modern architecture and the water.
The goal was to extend those clean lines all the way to the pool’s edge, creating a rhythm that guides you through the space. It’s more than just a deck, it’s the difference between having a place to swim and having a place to escape.

Modern, durable, and officially ready for pool season. 🌿
