FROM THE ARCHIVES. Dungan Miller Design is a matter of love for all of our staff, and it’s with great pride that we approach our 20th anniversary this January. This is a unique floor for Inman Gallery on Main Street. One of the city’s leading contemporary art galleries commissioned us to do this hand-rubbed white glazed finish. It has served as a foil over the years for a great variety of exhibitions. The gallery will relocate in 2025.

Murphy Mears .humphries.design designed this River Oaks home and we did micro-topping applications in several areas, including a full-room shower and fireplaces. It’s a beautiful finish in this highly crafted project, and it can take the heat!

For Southampton Group and Ed Eubanks architects in 2000, Suzanne Dungan and I did this rich emerald floor in a River Oaks home. I love how our floor sets off the traditional furnishings.

Each year the A.I.A. home tour features some of Houston’s best new residential architecture. The tour this year, over the Nov. 2-3rd weekend includes our work on Architects’ 814 Columbia project, which includes a reworked Heights bungalow and an entirely new dwelling, lovingly bridged together. is the architect of this The Allen 34th-floor penthouse interior and saw an opportunity for us to polish a structural concrete wall. Here’s the exciting result, which has the appearance of a quiet strata and constantly embodies the changing light out the window. It’s a pleasure to work on such a finely-tuned project.

A micro-cement floor for a garage-to game room conversion in River Oaks. This material is applied using a hand trowel by our fine artisans, can be made any color, and is sealed with a resilient sealer.

EMA has opened in the neighborhood! In a fresh and airy storefront the innovative team will offer food and coffee devoted to presenting “Family, memories, nostalgia, and culture”. Baker-Chef Stephanie Velasquez, food chef Nicolas Vera, and coffee lead Marlén Mendoza are passionate about their mission, and wow is it tasty. The floor is a landmark for the Dungan Miller team, too, having been executed by lead artisan Nic Reyes while in was hospitalized in November.

Yesterday I had my first, long-overdue visit to Blackwood Educational Land Institute. My friend Shannon and I were given a tour by the founder Cath Conlon, who told us that she thinks of the working farm’s principal harvest as the soil which they’ve been enriching for 40 years. Cath showed us through the Straw Bale House, the first permanent structure on the property, built by a team she led. The straw bale technique is fascinating. These shots are the Shaker-simple rooms of that place.

The Joyce residence is an addition and renovation to an existing 1938 one-story bungalow. The design expands and modernizes the structure while maintaining the scale and vernacular of its quaint northside neighborhood. The quiet restraint of the exterior is juxtaposed with unexpected, playful spatial experiences within.
