🚨 5 Warning Signs Your Sewer Line Needs Attention

Most sewer line problems don't happen overnight. Your plumbing system usually gives warning signs before a major backup occurs.

Watch for these common red flags:

✅ Multiple slow drains or backups throughout the home
✅ Soggy, unusually green, or sunken spots in your yard
✅ Gurgling toilets or drains
✅ Sewer odors inside or outside your home
✅ Increased pest activity or unexplained water damage

Catching these issues early can help prevent costly repairs and damage to your home.

At Cornerstone Drain & Sewer, every drain cleaning includes a sewer camera inspection so we can help identify potential problems before they become emergencies.

🎥 FAQ Friday: What Happens During a Sewer Camera Inspection?

Most homeowners don’t think about their sewer line until something goes wrong. A sewer camera inspection lets us see inside your pipes without digging or guessing.

During an inspection, we can identify:

✔️ Clogs and blockages
✔️ Root intrusion
✔️ Cracked or broken pipes
✔️ Separated joints
✔️ Grease buildup
✔️ Bellies that hold water

At Cornerstone Drain & Sewer, we perform a camera inspection after every drain cleaning whenever possible. We don’t just want to clear the clog—we want to verify the line is clear and help you understand what’s happening inside your plumbing system.

The best part? You get to see exactly what we see. No guesswork. No surprises. Just real answers and informed recommendations.

🎥 FAQ Friday: What Happens During a Sewer Camera Inspection?

Many homeowners hear the term “sewer camera inspection” but aren’t exactly sure what it means or why it’s important.

A sewer camera inspection allows us to see inside your drain and sewer pipes without digging or guessing. Using a specialized waterproof camera, we can identify:

✅ Clogs and blockages
✅ Root intrusion
✅ Broken or cracked pipes
✅ Separated joints
✅ Grease buildup
✅ Bellies (low spots that hold water)

At Cornerstone Drain & Sewer, we perform a camera inspection after every drain cleaning whenever possible. We believe in verifying that the line is actually clear and helping our customers understand the condition of their plumbing system.

One of the biggest benefits of a camera inspection is that it removes the guesswork. Instead of recommending repairs based on assumptions, we can show you exactly what’s happening inside your pipes and discuss the best solution.

Regular inspections can also help identify small problems before they turn into costly backups and emergency repairs.

🚨 Just because your drain is flowing again doesn't mean the problem is fixed.

One of the most interesting sewer camera inspections we've performed was at a home that was only five years old. After clearing a clog, we ran a camera through the line and discovered a construction defect that had been hidden since the house was built. Dirt had been entering the sewer line for years until it finally caused a backup.

Without the camera inspection, the drain would have worked again—for a while. The real problem would have remained.

That's why at Cornerstone Drain & Sewer, we believe sewer camera inspections are one of the most valuable tools available to homeowners. They help us:

✅ Confirm the drain is actually clear
✅ Identify what caused the clog
✅ Find hidden issues before they become emergencies
✅ Help homeowners make informed decisions about repairs and maintenance

In our newest blog, I walk through exactly what happens during a sewer camera inspection, what we look for, what cameras can and can't find, and why I believe every drain cleaning should include one.

🔧 WHY IT WORKS WEDNESDAY 🔧

That curved pipe under your sink isn’t there by accident.

It’s called a P-trap, and its job is to hold water that creates a barrier between your home and the sewer system.

Without it, sewer gases and odors could enter your home.

A small part with a big job:
✔️ Prevents sewer smells
✔️ Helps keep pests out
✔️ Protects your indoor air quality
✔️ Required by plumbing code

Sometimes the simplest plumbing components are the most important.

Got a plumbing question? Leave it below and it might be featured in a future Why It Works Wednesday!

🔧 WHY IT WORKS WEDNESDAY 🔧

Ever wonder why your sink doesn’t smell like sewer gas?

You can thank the P-trap.

That curved section of pipe underneath your sink is designed to hold a small amount of water at all times. That water creates a seal between your home and the sewer system, preventing sewer gases, odors, and potentially harmful contaminants from entering your house.

A properly functioning P-trap:
✅ Blocks sewer odors
✅ Helps keep pests out
✅ Protects indoor air quality
✅ Is required by plumbing code

If you’ve noticed a sewer smell under a sink, it could mean the P-trap has dried out, is leaking, or wasn’t installed correctly.

It’s a simple part of your plumbing system, but it plays a huge role in keeping your home safe and comfortable.

🚨 Is a Slow Drain a Warning Sign of a Bigger Sewer Problem? 🚨

Most homeowners ignore a slow drain because it's still working.

The problem? Slow drains rarely fix themselves.

In our experience, what starts as a slow sink, shower, or tub can sometimes be the first warning sign of:
✔️ A belly in the sewer line
✔️ Root intrusion
✔️ A separated pipe
✔️ A developing main line blockage

We recently worked with a homeowner who ignored a slow drain in a guest bathroom. Months later, wastewater backed up under a toilet, causing extensive water damage and months of repairs.

The good news? A slow drain gives you time to investigate the problem before it becomes an emergency.

In our latest blog, we cover:
✅ The most common causes of slow drains
✅ Warning signs of a larger sewer issue
✅ When you should call a professional
✅ Why we run a camera inspection after clearing drains
✅ A real-life case study from the field

Think a slow drain is just an annoyance?

It might be the first warning sign of a bigger problem hiding in your sewer line.

We often hear:
✔️ “It’s been draining slow for months.”
✔️ “It finally backed up this weekend.”
✔️ “I wish I had called sooner.”

A small clog can grow into a complete blockage, leading to:
❌ Multiple drains backing up
❌ Sewage coming into the home
❌ Water damage
❌ More expensive repairs

That’s why at Cornerstone Drain and Sewer, we don’t just clear the clog—we run a camera inspection to verify the line is clear and identify any underlying issues.

1️⃣ Is it one drain or several?
2️⃣ Have you used chemical drain cleaners?
3️⃣ What do you think caused the clog?
