𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀. 𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗿-𝗼𝗳𝗳𝘀. 𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲𝘀.

Yesterday’s build revealed problems beneath the old roof. Today in 𝗦𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗧𝗫, we uncovered multiple sheets of compromised decking after tear-off. Hidden water intrusion had been doing damage where it couldn’t be seen, even during a thorough attic inspection.

The plan is a 𝗧𝗔𝗠𝗞𝗢 𝗧𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗫𝗧 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗻 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿. First, the decking beneath it has to be sound. Good shingles deserve a solid place to land.

We would love to tell you every roofing project is simple: remove the old roof, install the new one, and call it a day. But this project reminded us that 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗦𝗮𝘀𝗾𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗯𝗼𝘄𝘀.

Once the existing roof was stripped down, we uncovered 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲. Numerous sheets of decking, structural repairs, and more than a few lumber runs later, the home finally had the solid foundation its new roof system deserved.

The finished result: 𝗮 𝗧𝗔𝗠𝗞𝗢 𝗧𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗫𝗧 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸.

Another 𝗥𝗼𝗼𝗳𝘂𝘀-𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹 delivering a properly built roof, real peace of mind, and most likely, a few jealous neighbors.

𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐑𝐎𝐎𝐅 𝐇𝐀𝐒 𝐕𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐒—𝐁𝐔𝐓 𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐘 𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐔𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐘 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆?

Proper attic ventilation is not about adding as many vents as possible. It requires a 𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦: cooler outside air enters through lower intake vents while hot, moisture-heavy air escapes through upper exhaust vents.

When that balance is wrong, your ventilation may be doing very little, or even 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐭𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟.

Some of the most common problems we find include:

The result can be 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞, premature aging of your shingles and roof decking, and an air-conditioning system fighting overtime against an overheated attic.

That ventilation issue may not be the only reason for an absurd electric bill, but it can absolutely be 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦.
