Sometimes the problem is a repairable system component. In other cases, the existing well may be a candidate for rehabilitation. And sometimes replacement is the more practical option.

The right decision depends on why the performance changed, not simply how old the well is.

A completed residential water well in Fayetteville, TX, Fayette County, planned around several water needs on the same property.

The property includes a two-bathroom home with a kitchen and laundry area, a one-bathroom barndominium, plus outdoor watering for plants and the yard.

The completed well measured a static water level of 81 ft, with a 16S15-14 pump set at 280 ft, a 1½ HP control box, and constant pump flow. During testing, the system measured approximately 65 GPM.

Different properties use water differently. Planning the system around the home, additional structures, and outdoor use helps make sure the setup matches how the property is intended to operate.

No water after severe weather does not automatically mean the well itself has failed.

The problem could be somewhere else in the system—from power and controls to the pump or pressure equipment.

The important part is finding the actual cause before assuming the biggest repair is needed.

If your water supply suddenly changes after a storm, start with proper troubleshooting.

The storm may be over, but your well still deserves a quick check.

Look around the wellhead, check whether floodwater reached the system, watch how water is draining around the area, and pay attention to anything that changed afterward.

If the well was actually flooded, don’t judge safety by whether the water looks clear. Flooding can introduce contaminants and may also affect the pump or electrical components.

A completed residential water well in Lola, TX, Grimes County, planned for the property’s current needs with possible future use in mind.

The system includes a 10SQE10-290 pump installed at 200 ft, with estimated well production of approximately 10–20 GPM.

The property is currently residential, with the possibility of connecting two homes in the future.

After installation, the well was run for about 1.5 hours. Because the water had not fully cleared at that point, the customer was advised to continue running it for another 2–3 hours to allow additional clearing.

Planning a well starts with understanding how the property may actually use water—not just what it needs today.

Standing water near a private well deserves a closer look after heavy rain.

Start by checking whether runoff is draining toward the well instead of away from it, and whether floodwater actually reached the wellhead or equipment.

Those are different situations—and they shouldn’t be treated the same way.

If the well itself has been flooded, avoid using the system until it has been properly inspected and the water has been evaluated for safety.
