We came across this photocell installation where the unit was being powered from an outlet using an extension cord.

🚨 Extension cords are not a permanent wiring method for outdoor electrical equipment. They can create safety hazards, especially when exposed to moisture, weather, physical damage, or improper connections.

✅ A photocell should be properly installed and hardwired according to the equipment requirements and applicable electrical code.

This is a great reminder that temporary fixes can become permanent hazards.

TROUBLESHOOTING A DIRECT SHORT — POLE LIGHT CIRCUIT 💡⚡️
Called out to troubleshoot a pole light that was causing a direct short at the circuit breaker.

After tracing the circuit, the issue led us to the pole-light wiring. The photos show deteriorated wiring, exposed/compromised conductors, and damaged connections—exactly the kind of condition that can create a short circuit and trip the breaker.

🔎 Troubleshooting process:
• Verify the breaker and affected circuit
• Isolate the load from the circuit
• Check for continuity/shorts with power safely disconnected
• Trace the wiring toward the pole light
• Inspect connections, insulation, and junction points
• Locate the fault before restoring power
• Repair/replace damaged components as required
• Test the circuit after repairs

⚠️ A tripping breaker is a warning—not something to bypass. A direct short can create a serious shock and fire hazard. Proper isolation, testing, and repair should be performed by a qualified electrician.
