Roger Williams Brooks
April 4, 1946 – September 27, 2025
It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to Roger William Brooks, 79, a beloved husband and wonderful father. He passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025, leaving behind a trail of broken hearts and a grand legacy in horticulture, ornithology, education, and a vast catalog of Dad jokes that never failed to bring laughter to everyone who knew him.
Born in Morris, Illinois to William and Lucille Brooks, Roger’s passion for plants and animals began early and guided his life’s work. After earning his degree in Biology and Botany from Illinois State University, he taught high school science before moving to Florida in 1972 with his wife, Janice and daughter Shanti, to begin a new chapter.
Together, they built Four B’s Nursery in Parkland and later Continental Foliage Growers in Delray Beach, becoming respected names in the horticulture industry. He was active in Florida Nursery Growers and Landscape Association. In 2008 Roger and Janice received the Wendell Buttler Award for Outstanding Nurseryman of the year. Roger’s love of nature also led him to become a breeder of endangered and exotic waterfowl, including black swans, cranes, and rare pheasants with Janice by his side.
After many fulfilling years of working together, they retired to pursue another lifelong dream of traveling the country in their RV. They spent their golden years exploring many beautiful places and meeting wonderful people. In 2022, their lives took another joyful turn when they moved into St. Andrews Estates, where they found a vibrant community and made many dear friends.
Roger had a life well lived, as a teacher, entrepreneur, nature lover, storyteller, and friend to all. It was often said that he never met a stranger, and this was true. His laughter, curiosity and warmth will be missed by all who had the joy of knowing him.
He is survived by his beloved wife Janice, daughter Shanti and son-in-law Goa, and son Bryon.
Family and Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at St. Andrews Estates South, 6045 Verde Trail South, Boca Raton, FL 33433.
Service will be held at the St. Andrews South Chapel, November 6, 2025, at 4:00 pm.
