"We build custom! Here's a look at one of two cabinet projects we're working on. This one's a reception desk for an office here in Holdrege — the other is a locker and coat-hanging system for a homeowner. We brought in another contractor we work with (Bud — you may have seen him in an earlier post) to help bring these to life. He's a true craftsman. Can't wait to show you the final results!"

It's almost truss week! Next week we're setting trusses on a garage addition — the final phase of one of our biggest projects to date.
Here's how we do it: before anything goes up in the air, we gang the first two or three trusses together on the ground. That gives us something solid to brace off the moment they're set. We also frame out the gable overhangs down low instead of trying to piece them together way up in the air. Not that I'm scared of heights — I just don't bounce back up like I used to 😅.
One extra detail on this build: the gable truss and the next set over on this build are spaced a bit wider than usual, to leave room for a stairwell up to the attic.
More pictures to come once this project is finished!

One of the many great benefits of being a business owner in a rural community is helping out other local businesses.
Today we're working on another contractor's job to lend a hand. Since he works alone, he can take on projects he might not otherwise be able to because he knows he can call on us when he needs extra help.
Instead of looking at each other as competitors, we see it as a partnership that benefits everyone—our businesses, our customers, and our community. That's what small-town business is all about.

Meet "the Boys." That's my name for Seth and Josiah. Seth is my oldest son, and Josiah is my nephew, so the nickname has stuck. They're the next generation of WenConn Building, bringing fresh energy, new ideas, and occasionally reminding me that I don't know everything. (Don't let that go to their heads.) It's a privilege to watch them help carry this family business into the future.
