💧 **DO YOU KNOW?**💧
What does “licensed” really mean when it comes to your well water?
When hiring someone to work on your well or home water system, you may hear words like licensed, certified, trained, or experienced — but they do not always mean the same thing.
In Florida, a licensed Water Well Contractor (WWC) must meet experience requirements, pass required examinations, and maintain continuing education. Within their licensed scope, Water Well Contractors may construct, repair, and properly abandon wells, as well as install and service pumps, tanks, and certain water-conditioning equipment.

What many homeowners may not realize is that Florida does not have a separate statewide Pump Installer license or a general Water Treatment Technician license comparable to the Water Well Contractor license.

However, respected organizations such as the National Ground Water Association (NGWA) and Water Quality Association (WQA) offer professional certifications that demonstrate additional training and knowledge.
So before someone works on the water your family depends on, it is always reasonable to ask:
🔹 Are you licensed?
🔹 Do you hold professional certifications?
🔹 What training and experience do you have?
At Sheffield's Water Well Services-High Springs, we believe an educated customer is an empowered customer. We care about our customers, our groundwater resources, and the safety and integrity of the wells serving our community.

August is National Water Quality Month!💧💧
When we talk about protecting water quality, we often think about our beautiful springs and rivers—but for those of us on private wells, protecting our water also starts right here at the well.

A properly constructed well includes a secure sanitary well seal designed to help prevent insects, debris, surface water and other potential contaminants from entering the well and reaching the groundwater below.

Here in North Central Florida, our wells, springs and rivers are all connected to the same incredible groundwater resource—the Floridan aquifer. Protecting it is something we all have a part in.

For private well owners, this is also a good time to pay attention to your water. Changes in color, taste, odor or sediment may be worth investigating, and routine water testing can help you better understand the quality of the water your family uses every day.
💧 Clean water starts underground—and protecting it starts at the surface.

💧 Florida’s Drought Conditions Have Been Updated… Is Your Well Ready? 💧
The latest U.S. Drought Monitor shows that much of Florida continues to experience varying levels of drought. While every area is different, drought conditions can affect groundwater levels—the very source that supplies private wells.
If you rely on a well, now is a great time to pay attention to changes such as:

✔️ Lower water pressure
✔️ Air sputtering from faucets
✔️ Cloudy or sandy water
✔️ Changes in taste, odor, or color
✔️ Your pump running longer than normal

These can all be signs that your well system may need professional attention.

At Sheffield's Water Well Services-High Springs, we’ve proudly served North Central Florida for three generations. As a locally owned and operated High Springs family business, we understand Florida’s aquifer, changing water tables, and the unique challenges drought can bring.
A small issue caught early can often prevent a much more expensive repair later.
💧 If you’ve noticed any change in your well water, don’t ignore it—we’re here to help.

Groundwater protection should be part of every conversation about future growth.

As discussions continue around the expansion of AI and data centers, the National Ground Water Association (NGWA) has released a position paper focused on protecting our groundwater resources.

Regardless of where people stand on data centers themselves, I believe we can all agree that Florida's aquifers deserve careful stewardship. The NGWA's recommendations emphasize science-based planning, transparency, hydrogeologic evaluations, monitoring, and the use of technologies that reduce or eliminate consumptive groundwater use whenever possible.

If you're interested in the topic, I encourage you to read the NGWA position paper and learn more about how our industry is approaching these challenges.

What do you think are the most important considerations when balancing growth with protecting our groundwater resources?
