Honeybees take great care to keep their hive in order, which includes removing any debris or dirt that may accumulate. In this video, a honeybee is seen extracting a piece of wood that has fallen into the hive. Although it may appear that she is struggling, she utilizes her hind legs to grip the wood while her front and middle legs assist in the extraction. Interestingly, she even attempts to use her wings for additional help. Just moments later, she successfully removes the wood and it lands outside of the hive.

Honeybee queens are accompanied by a select group of worker bees dedicated solely to their care. These bees, known as attendants, can often be observed forming a protective circle around the queen while she is at rest, or trailing closely behind her as she navigates the honeycomb. Unlike their worker counterparts, queens do not feed themselves; they rely on their attendants for nourishment. This arrangement allows the queen to devote more time to her primary role: laying eggs.

The temperature outside has reached 97 degrees today, prompting the bees to seek relief from the heat. In instances of excessive warmth, many bees exhibit a behavior known as bearding, where they cluster at the entrance of the hive. This strategic positioning facilitates air circulation, aiding in the cooling of the hive. Once the temperature stabilizes, the bees will return to their usual place inside.

Honeybees will gather honey from the environment if the opportunity arises. This approach is more efficient for them since they do not require the drying process needed for raw nectar. The comb shown was compromised when the beekeeper inspected the hive and was subsequently placed outside for the bees to reclaim the honey.

Here is the difference between a mated and a virgin honeybee queen! The queen at the top has yet to embark on her mating flights, appearing smaller and poised for flight. In contrast, the queen below, who has successfully mated, showcases a larger abdomen filled with developing eggs.

Bearding is a common behavior exhibited by honey bees, typically observed during the mid to late summer months. These bees cluster outside the hive to enhance airflow, which aids in drying the nectar into honey and helps regulate the temperature within the hive.
