It’s so easy to get caught up in our daily lives. I remember a time when I would lay on my back and look up into the trees to watch them blow in the wind…..haha that was before I knew I’d be climbing in them every day! I hope this is a little positive break in your day and a reminder to pause every once in a while! Whoever and wherever you are have a badass day! ❤️

I don’t know what it is about falling trees that fascinates people but it’s a real thing. I would say that about 80-90% of the time I have an audience for at least one portion of my job. We love answering the questions and are happy to provide a good wholesome entertainment! This happen to anyone else in the biz???

Just a quick tip for how to get a throw line that’s hung up to release itself over a limb. I know it as the bow technique and use it all the time! Some of you might goof on me for wearing my helmet while I do this but those throw bags don’t mess around! I’ve had them come zipping back at me many times over and they don’t hold back any punches!

A lot of folks show this one as just a nifty cut, and although it is pretty engaging it actually has a purpose. That purpose is to set a drop direction and to capture the base of the tree as it falls. Lots of times this is used to make sure that a tree doesn’t smash a utility.

This is an overview of a simple ratio that allows us to estimate the risk of decay in trees. Using a bored sample we can get a ratio of the healthy wood over the total radius of the trunk. Doing so gives us empirical data to make more informed decisions about how to treat or remove a tree!

The stick trick is a great way to make sure that your drop zone is the right size for the piece you’re felling. Right triangles for the win!

Just generally having a grand old time! We have lovingly named our big saw “Tiny”. It helps us make good drops on large diameter trees where we don’t want to take bites out of it for fear of added danger. This tree came down around strawberry reservoir and was a great view for the day. Hope you enjoyed us being goofy!

When I have the right anchor point a tip’n’butt is the way to go! It’s all technique because physics does all the rest of the work and because it doesn’t shock load very much you can take huge chunks in one go. Very effective when working over things you don’t want to smash.

This is my favorite way of getting a line into a tree! I used to waste so much time trying to sling the throw bag by hand! Putting a red dot on the unit was by far the best thing I could’ve done.

For all those harry-potta-fans! Sometimes it’s nice to break up the tension with some humor!
