NOT EVERY HOME INSPECTION INVOLVES BUYING OR SELLING A HOME. 🏠 🔎

Recently, we inspected a home for a family that planned to keep the property in the family after the passing of a loved one.

There wasn’t a real estate transaction involved. They simply wanted a better understanding of the home’s overall condition and an independent, neutral set of eyes to help identify what may need attention now and what they could plan for down the road.

That’s something people don’t always realize about home inspections.

There are plenty of reasons to have a home inspected outside of a traditional real estate transaction. Maybe you’ve inherited a property, you’re helping a family member, you’re planning renovations, you’ve lived in the home for years, or you simply want a better understanding of its current condition.

Because we don’t sell repairs or replacement services, our role is to provide an independent, neutral assessment of the home and help you understand what we find.

We’ve also built relationships with local contractors and specialists we know and trust. When someone needs additional help, we’re happy to point them in the right direction when we can. We don’t receive referral fees or kickbacks from anyone we recommend. They’re simply people and companies we’ve had good experiences with and feel comfortable referring. 👍

Sometimes an inspection isn’t about making a buying decision. It’s simply about having good information, knowing what may need attention, and having some direction on what to do next.

YOUR HOUSE IS ALWAYS TALKING. SOMETIMES YOU JUST HAVE TO KNOW WHAT TO LOOK FOR. 🏠🔎

You don’t have to be buying or selling a home for an inspection to be valuable.

Homes change over time. Small leaks develop, caulking and sealants deteriorate, electrical issues can go unnoticed, drainage conditions change, and heating or plumbing components can start showing signs of trouble.

Sometimes the little things we find are inexpensive to address now but can become much bigger problems if they’re left unnoticed.

A TYPICAL DAY BEHIND THE SCENES AT AROUND THE BLOCK INSPECTIONS 🏠🔎

Some days are spent inspecting houses, some are spent at commercial properties, and some days are spent mostly in the office handling everything that happens behind the scenes. Yesterday was definitely one of those days! 😂

🏠 Scheduled upcoming residential inspections and worked through some scheduling changes.

🤝 Helped a gentleman find the right referral for an ADA-related property concern.

🔥 Helped one of our recent homebuyers who had called around 15 chimney companies and couldn’t find anyone available until mid-November. We were able to connect him with someone who can get there this Saturday for a Level 2 chimney inspection with a camera.

🇺🇸 Helped an agent work through some questions related to a VA appraisal and went back through our inspection report with them.

☎️ Spent time with one of our recent commercial clients going through the report and findings from a large 28-building commercial property inspection.

📱 Worked on social media and marketing content for both companies.

🏢 Scheduled a commercial property inspection through our commercial division, Wisconsin Commercial Inspections.

📋 Confirmed another upcoming commercial inspection and coordinated access, onsite contacts, and other logistics.

📚 Worked in some training and continuing education.

And somewhere in between all of that, plenty of phone calls, texts, and emails. 😂

Just a pretty typical day at Around The Block Inspections and our commercial division, Wisconsin Commercial Inspections.

One of the things we really enjoy about this business is that our job doesn’t necessarily end when the inspection is over. Whether it’s answering questions, going back through a report, finding the right specialist, or simply pointing someone in the right direction, we’re always happy to help when we can and try to respond as quickly as possible.

Another new construction final inspection today, this time right here in Hartland! 🏠🔍

The house was looking great… the yard was a different story. 😂🌿

I was starting to wonder if a machete should be added to the inspection tool bag. Some of these weeds were 3–4 feet tall, but we made our way through them to inspect the exterior. Between the wet vegetation and mosquitoes, my pants were soaked by the time I was done. 🦟😂

All part of making sure our clients get a thorough inspection, inside AND out.

Building a new home? A third-party final inspection gives you another set of eyes before you move in. Already moved in and skipped the final inspection? An 11-month warranty inspection is another great opportunity to have the home checked before your builder warranty expires.

We’ve been doing quite a few new construction final inspections lately, especially around the Lake Country area. 🏠🔎

Even with a brand-new home, having an independent third party take a look before you move in can be incredibly valuable.

Most of what we find on new builds is exactly what you’d expect, punch-list items and things that simply need a little attention or finishing. But every once in a while, we find something more important that really should be addressed before the buyer takes possession.

When you consider the investment being made in a new home, having another set of experienced eyes go through it before closing just makes sense.

We’ve recently been helping more new construction buyers in Hartland, Oconomowoc, Pewaukee, Summit, and throughout the Lake Country area. Having a third-party inspection is definitely becoming a more popular part of the new construction process.
