Once drywall goes up, nobody's checking the framing behind it. Nobody's pulling a panel to find out whether the rough-in was done carefully or done fast. That work gets covered.

So it gets done right the first time, or it gets done again.

What’s behind the name VFC isn’t a logo or a tagline.

It’s three promises that shape every single home build experience:

Vision. Faith. Community.

An ability to see what doesn't yet exist, to take the little details from our clients dreams, and depict back to them a full scale possibility with real life numbers and the information to make the best calls possible.

A kind of persistent patience and faith in the process and people that brings out the best in everyone we work with. And a deep running and rooted belief in the God in whose image we were made and that everything we do flows from that belief. There are days when the goal seems a long way off. Those are the days when we remember why we included this part in our name.

And ultimately a firm stance that everything we do is for the good of our world, whether it's the home owner trusting us with their forever home, the many trade partners who trust us to have work for them and compensate fairly, and the neighborhoods that rely on our integrity in the value we bring to them.

Is VFC more of an acronym for a mission statement? Sure.
But is it really hard to make people understand over the phone?
Also yes. 😂 😂

At the end of the day though, it is a daily reminder of the ideas that shape who we are, what we're working toward and that hold us to a higher standard.

Why is there so much angst around "surprise" costs in residential construction? It's usually centered around a key word: Allowance.

An allowance is a placeholder. A dollar amount your builder pencils in the budget for the things you haven't picked yet.

Flooring. Lighting. Countertops. Plumbing fixtures.

If the allowance line items in your budget are set at realistic numbers, the budget you signed is the budget you live with.

Versus if they are set as low as they can be while still technically covering the most basic option of that item, the bid looks great right up until you walk into the showroom and fall for tile that costs three times the allowance line item.

If you're comparing quotes make sure to compare the allowance amounts. If they're vastly different in cost ask for more detailed information about the selections involved.

A transparent builder with integrity will be able to give you those details happily.
