Another roof brought up to standard. 🔨

This one meant a little more to me — I came back “home” for our first Flux Contracting roof replacement in the town I grew up in. It’s pretty cool getting the opportunity to improve homes on the same streets I was raised on. Needless to say we went the extra mile to get this roof proper.

We replaced this aging roof with GAF Timberline HDZ shingles in Hickory, but the bigger improvements are in the details you don’t always notice from the ground.

Both chimneys received new crickets to properly divert water, we relocated the plumbing vent away from the chimney so both could be properly flashed, and we secured and re-stuccoed a large crack in the chimney before finishing everything up.

A roof replacement is the time to correct existing problem areas—not just cover them up with new shingles.

Not every roof fails because it’s old.

This homeowner was dealing with a 5 year old torch-down roof that had already failed. We removed the existing system and installed a new 60-mil EPDM roofing system with all new manufacturer-recommended flashings to provide a long-lasting, watertight solution.

The porch roof had its own issues. A poorly designed torch-down roof with an internal drain and an unnecessary cricket that trapped water instead of directing it away. We removed the entire assembly, eliminated the cricket, and installed Owens Corning Colonial Slate shingles, along with a new fascia, gutter, and downspouts to improve both performance and curb appeal.

Sometimes the right repair isn’t fixing what’s there—it’s correcting the design that caused the problem in the first place.

We always do everything we can to preserve the character of a natural slate roof. Unfortunately, some roofs are simply beyond repair.

On this home, we replaced 23 missing, broken, and improperly repaired slate tiles on the main roof. The porch roof had extensive structural damage, including severely rotted rafters, sagging framing, and deteriorated decking. We rebuilt and leveled the structure before installing GAF Slateline shingles to maintain the timeless slate look and complement the home’s original architecture.

Sometimes the best repair isn’t just fixing the roof—it’s restoring the structure beneath it.

💧 I’ve been seeing a lot of posts lately from homeowners struggling with roof leaks that no one seems to be able to find.

The truth is, finding a roof leak is often the hardest part. Water rarely enters directly above where you see it inside your home, and too many contractors jump straight to replacing shingles without finding the real source.

Over the years, I’ve spent countless hours tracking down difficult leaks on roofs of all types. That experience taught me how to think like water and diagnose the problem before making the repair.
