You can actually hear the yellow jackets inside the ceiling 😳

This nest was getting dangerously close to a breakthrough into the living space. Thankfully, we got there just in time.

If you’re hearing buzzing, scratching, or unusual activity inside a wall or ceiling, don’t wait. A hidden nest can quickly become a much bigger problem.

One of the cool things about working in pest control is noticing what insects are doing before they ever become a problem inside the house.

I found a whole bunch of cluster flies hanging out on one of my hammock swings today. Cluster flies are actually pretty interesting because they are not considered a filthy fly like a house fly. Their larvae are parasitic and develop using earthworms.

As we get closer to fall and temperatures start cooling down, the adult flies begin looking for warm, sunny places to gather. In my case, they are coming right out of the field and landing all over the hammock swing where it is warm.

Eventually, that same instinct can lead them toward your home, where they may try to overwinter inside siding, soffits, attics, wall voids, and other protected areas.

That makes cluster flies one of our common fall invaders, and they are one of the pests our fall preventative treatments are designed to help keep outside before they find their way in.

🦴🐝 A little behind the scenes look at yellow jacket behavior!

I found this bone sitting out on a patio at an apartment complex, and the yellow jackets were all over it, literally harvesting the meat.

Yellow jackets are not just after your soda or something sweet. Their developing brood needs protein, so workers will collect meat from insects, carrion, pet food, garbage, and apparently even an old bone like this one, then bring it back to the nest to feed the larvae.

And this time of year, that protein is especially important as the colony puts energy into producing the future queens that will eventually leave the nest, find a protected place to overwinter, and start brand new colonies next spring.

Pretty cool to see the life cycle happening right in front of you... even if it is happening on an apartment patio. 😅

If you are suddenly noticing a lot more yellow jacket activity around your home or property, there is usually a reason they are hanging around.

Check out this yellow jacket. It's harvesting deck material to build its nest!!!

These yellow jackets were NOT happy to see us. 😳🐝

If you’re seeing this much activity, there’s likely a nest nearby. Let the pros handle the angry ones!

We dissected a wasp nest, and there’s a lot more happening inside than you’d think.

Each layer contains brood at different stages of development, and those capped cells are holding developing wasps that will eventually emerge as full-grown adults.

It’s basically an entire colony growing right under your nose.

Like this video and comment “nest” if you want to see us dissect an even bigger one next.

Preventative treatments help stop wasps and other pests before they get the chance to settle in. Stay ahead of the problem and keep your home protected all season long.

Want to reduce ticks around your yard? Here’s one simple tip:

Keep grass mowed and remove leaf litter from the edges of your property. Ticks thrive in cool, damp, shaded areas, so reducing those hiding spots can make your yard less inviting.

Small changes can go a long way toward protecting your family and pets.

If you’d rather have a professional handle the rest, we’re here to help with a customized tick control plan. Send us a message to learn more!
