🚨 It's ICE DAM season! 🚨

Are you experiencing a leak? Is there a bunch of ice in your gutters and along the edge of your roof?

If this leak hasn't happened in any other season, there's a high chance that this is an ice dam back up. We're receiving lots of calls about ice dams right now. It’s not a roofing issue, it’s a ventilation and insulation issue. But mostly it’s just a "fun" side effect of living in WNY during the winter.

Right now the priority is to break up the ice dam. We do not break up ice dams, and we recommend calling a company with a steam machine. If you feel like you can safely clear the snow and ice from the edges of your roof (perhaps with a roof rake), that should help as well. Please do not use a hammer or hatchet to hack at the dam. That could cause damage. Do not use rock salt. Some people use ice melt (calcium chloride or magnesium chloride) in a nylon sock to help melt the dam.

Once the dam is broken up, the water can flow off your roof as intended and should stop backing up into your house. Ice dams don't typically damage the roof, so if you've experienced one, it is unlikely that you need a roof repair. As long as nothing hit your roof or punctured your shingles, you should be in the clear now that the ice dam is broken up. And moving forward, the best way to deal with ice dams is to prevent them from happening by roof raking or using heat cables.

With this dangerous cold, we’d like to extend an offer to any friends and their families/neighbors who are elderly and vulnerable in our village. In the event we get a good amount of snow Sunday and you know someone who needs help clearing a driveway, please message us on FB to get them on the list. This is for village of Hamburg people. ❄️ Seasonal Update from Roofs by Bryan ❄️

As winter settles in, our operations are slowing down for the season. While we are not currently scheduling full roof replacements, we are still taking information and creating a list of follow ups for estimates when the weather breaks.

We may be available for select repairs or snow shoveling, but these will be handled on a case-by-case basis depending on conditions and availability.

Our team will also be rotating through well-earned vacations between now and the end of January, so response times may be a bit slower than usual.

We truly appreciate your patience, understanding, and continued support, and we look forward to getting back into full swing as soon as Mother Nature allows!

Stay warm,
