After a vehicle crashed through this Plano community’s brick fence, the property management company called us to get it put back the right way. The damaged brick had been discontinued for years, and because the debris had already been removed, there was nothing to salvage.

We tracked down matching brick, rebuilt the columns first, installed new steel lintels for support, and then laid the brick panels to match the existing fence as closely as possible.

It’s the kind of project that takes a little extra time and problem-solving, but the finished result blends in like it was never damaged.

If water is getting inside around your windows, the problem can be behind the brick—not the window itself. This home had an active leak low at the floor level, so we removed the masonry, installed proper through-wall flashing, and rebuilt the wall with matching brick and mortar. The leak is gone, and the repair is seamless using matching brick (long discontinued) and mortar.
This same flashing system is required above the windows as well, and should also be installed anywhere masonry is above a roof.
Don’t just caulk the holes! Masonry systems are built to handle adequate rains, but only do so with proper installation.

Got to give Tony and Scott a big shout out for this repair at a bank drive-through in McKinney. Tony made these split face concrete blocks custom at the Brick Doctor shop. These units are decades old and there was no way we could find the manufacturer, if they were even still in business. So we got the measurements, and Tony made a form and tinkered until the manufactured stone was near identical. Scott Thurston then performed the install and was able to match the mortar spot on. He also left the job site clean enough to eat off of! Getting the stone size, texture and color right for this custom repair came included with our competitive price. We are proud to have guys that go the extra mile for a seamless repair.

Before ➡️ After

This project features a very light German schmear, designed to keep the natural brick visible while adding a soft, Old World character.

One thing most people don’t realize: it’s extremely difficult to perfectly mimic another mason’s technique, especially when doing repairs. A consistent schmear is best achieved during construction of the wall, not so easy after it’s built, as a repair. Every German schmear is hand-applied, and no two styles are exactly the same.

In this case, over time, rain washed away portions of the excess mortar. We went back, reapplied the schmear in those areas, and blended it as seamlessly as possible with the existing work.

To prevent this from happening again, we finished by applying a water repellent, helping protect the mortar and keep the look intact long-term.

Handcrafted work. Real-world conditions. Proper fixes done the right way.
