Secret confession, 🤫 I have a soft spot for FABRIC. There are SO many beautiful patterns, colors, textures, materials and uses for fabric. I don’t get to utilize fabric in as many of my projects as I would like – since there is not as much call for them in kitchens and bathrooms or new construction – but when I get the chance, I LOVE finding the perfect one!

And I do have to say, WALLPAPER is becoming a close second for a soft spot. All the color, pattern and textures that are similar to fabric, but I can use them in more kitchens, bathrooms, remodels and new construction!

I loved this combination of texture and pattern used in a recent 5 room project!

Sometimes, size DOES matter. 🤔 When it comes to the perfect kitchen island, finding the right balance between size and spacing is the key to a functional space. Prioritizing these specific measurements ensures your space remains open, easy to navigate, and comfortable for everyone.

Use: There are so many functions that we often require an island to perform. Prepping meals. Clean up. Cooking. Eating. Baking. Homework. Visiting guests. Serving counter. Storage. Statement piece. Make sure you factor these into your planning from the beginning. This not only drive the size and shape of an island, but also the appliances that may go into it.

Shape: Although rectangular is the most common shape, it is not always the most functional for the space. Keep in mind how your workflow in the kitchen, how the traffic will move around the island and how the island relates to nearby rooms. Perhaps a square, L-shaped or even curved island is the right shape for your home.

Clearance: Aim for 42”- 48” of walkway space for a comfortable flow, though 36” is the functional minimum for a single cook. Don’t forget to account for clearances needed when appliance doors are open or in use as this is a common spot for congestion within your workflow.

Seating: Ensure every guest has 21”- 24” of horizontal space and a 12”- 15” overhang for plenty of legroom. Also take into consideration what height you want the top to be for those sitting around your island - table height (30”), counter height (36”) and bar height (42”).

By keeping these considerations in mind, you can create a beautiful centerpiece that enhances your daily routine without overcrowding your home. We love helping you navigate these technical details to ensure your new kitchen is as practical as it is stunning.

We often think of vision boards as “just dreaming." When remodeling they can be a powerful, efficient tool. Here are a few steps to create a vision board and save yourself time later:

• Gather your ‘feelings’ in images. Don’t worry about specifics. Scroll through Pinterest, Instagram or magazines and clip anything that sparks an immediate ‘yes.’ Look for light, texture and color palettes that make you feel the way you want to feel in the new space.

• Lay out your images together and you’ll start to see patterns. Maybe it’s a recurring color or a style of cabinetry or the love for warm wood tones. Narrow your selection down to 5–10 images that best represent the common thread.

• Take photos of the non-negotiables that you already have, like current flooring or a favorite heirloom rug. Add these to the board because your new vision needs to play well with the elements that are staying.

• Now you can bring your board (or your phone) with when you are shopping for tile samples or paint colors (OR MEETING WITH ME 😉😎). Hold them up to your board to see if they match your overall vision.

A vision board could also be called a decision filter. By following these steps, you eliminate the second-guessing that usually leads to delays during construction.

Every project begins with a dedicated, two-hour working session. For some, this meeting provides all the clarity needed to move forward independently; for others, it’s the essential first step in a full-scale renovation.

A consultation is designed to provide clarity on:
• Prioritization: Identifying where to start and how to phase your project.
• Spatial Function: Finding ways to get more utility out of your current layout.
• Material Selections: Navigating the specifics of paint, countertops, tile, and lighting.
• The "Edit": Deciding which existing furnishings to keep and what to replace.

The goal for these two hours is to create a focused plan, ensuring your investment results in a home that truly functions for your lifestyle. 🏠🌿
