🌲✨ What a rare and unforgettable privilege! ✨🌿
Our garden club was fortunate to visit Sleepy Cat Farm, the stunning 13-acre private estate in Greenwich, Connecticut — a hidden masterpiece that Mr. Fred Landman began creating in 1994 and that’s only open to the public a precious few times each year.
Tucked in the heart of Greenwich, this extraordinary garden unfolds like a living poem: enchanting garden “rooms,” winding woodland paths, serene pools, whimsical pavilions, exquisite statuary (including Atlas, a dancing Bacchus, and Bourdelle’s dramatic warrior), and breathtaking specimen plantings. From the delicate Japanese spirit bridge to ever-changing vistas and delightful surprises around every corner, every detail reflects decades of thoughtful creativity and horticultural passion.
We were especially touched when owner Mr. Fred Landman greeted us so warmly and generously spent time with our group. His kindness, lovely spirit, and the wonderful stories he shared made the visit truly magical. We are so grateful for his hospitality! Here's just a tiny sample of images from that visit.
Grateful hearts and memories to treasure. 💚
A heartfelt thanks to our dearest Shelby Saer from NOLA and Hortulus and Sleepy Cat Farms for making this unreal experience possible for us.

🌿 What an incredible start to our 2025 Visiting Gardens trip thanks to Jill Nalty and Boo Kallenborn! 🌺❤️The New Orleans Town Gardeners kicked things off with a special visit to the Garden Club of America Headquarters in New York City.
Outgoing President Virginia Rowan and incoming President Linda Miller raised a toast in front of the elegant President’s Room to celebrate the year ahead.
🌺We were deeply honored to see the four botanical prints we donated in 1987 hanging prominently in the hallway. These exquisite works were created by world-renowned botanical illustrator Margaret Stones for Louisiana’s Bicentennial Florilegium project. They feature four of the state’s native plants, each representing different parishes.
🎖️🎖️While exploring the libraries and archives, we also spotted the prestigious Montine McDaniel Freeman Horticulture Medal — awarded to plants of special distinction. Designed by Patricia Hardin and first presented by Mr. and Mrs. Louis M. Freeman in 1994. It was especially meaningful to see this honor, as our own Virginia Freeman Rowan is Montine’s granddaughter and continues the family’s deep legacy of garden club leadership.
For more on Margaret Stones’ beautiful Florilegium prints, see the link in bio!

New Orleans Town Gardeners enjoyed a wonderful day in Houston celebrating Frida Kahlo and private gardens.
We began with a special pre-opening tour at the Museum of Fine Arts with Wellesley College Professor James, an expert in Latin American art and modern Mexican architecture. We left with a deep appreciation for Frida’s powerful art and inspiring life.
We then visited two breathtaking private gardens that felt like another world. Highlights included collecting delphinium seeds from a stunning rose garden and touring the only Frederick Law Olmsted garden in Houston.
While the estate is designed in a formal French chateau style, the Havens Sunken Garden offers a serene natural escape — with winding paths through native Texas plants, fragrant perennials, a gentle stream, and a peaceful pond.
