Don't let creosote or poor draft ruin your cozy fires! Quick DIY checks to keep your stove/fireplace efficient, safe, and burning strong through the rest of winter:

-Remove excess ashes weekly

-Inspect firebricks & baffle — Look for cracks or damage; replace as needed for better heat.

-Check door gasket/seals — Do the dollar bill test; habe replaced if worn to stop smoke leaks. Monitor for creosote buildup — If 1/8" or more (shiny black glaze), call JLV ASAP!

-Burn hot fires daily — Open draft wide for 10–15 min to burn off minor deposits & improve draft.

-Visually inspect chimney cap —Have snow, ice, or debris removed for proper venting in WI winters.

-Test smoke & CO detectors — Monthly checks near your appliance—safety first!

-Use dry, seasoned hardwood only — Minimizes creosote and maximizes heat.
