Roy Romer remembers a particular moment during the Dust Bowl that felt surreal: “I had a colleague in the car who was driving another tractor in another field. I saw the lights of the car coming down the road slowly. So, I ran up in front of the car, got in the other side, brushed myself off, looked over…and there was nobody driving the car!”
