WPM Trails has completed phase one of the new Gurney South MTB Park trail system for the Town of Queensbury. The new trail system is located near Rush Pond and is open for riding! This new trail system will offer unique MTB riding experiences in a 4 quadrant park over the next 3-4 years. If you like a fast, flow single track ride with lots of banks and berms you need to be here! The future will bring a long cross country riding loop, some downhill freeride one way trails, a flow trail loop and some classic pirate type trail riding. At completion it will be as big or bigger than Gurney Lane MTB Park.
Access to Gurney South MTB Park is from the parking lot on the far North end of Rush Pond Way Trail or park at the big paved parking lot on Carol Thomas Rd. behind the county building.

WPM Trails has completed trail improvements at SUNY College of Environmental and Science and Forestry’s Goodnow Mountain (Fire Tower) hiking trail. During construction seasons in 2019 & 2020, WPM Trails provided leadership and training for SUNY ESF’s intern trail crew who assisted with all trail construction and improvements. WPM Trails completed more than 2 miles of new trail to create a campus connecting trail system for the ESF Newcomb college campus. A new trail and trail improvements were also completed at the Adirondack Interpretive Center.

In August, Gurney Lane MTB Park in Queensbury, NY ranked as the # 1 Mountain Bike Trail System in New York by SingleTracks.com! The vision and dedication of Steve Lovering Director of Queensbury Parks and Recreation to collaborate with Steve Ovitt of WPM Trails, WPM’s professional trail crew, Zach, Frank and Shannon, and all the loyal MTB riders helped make this MTB park a huge rockin success.

It all began 6 years ago when Wilderness Property Management Inc. was an outdoor recreation consultant for Queensbury Parks and Recreation and created a MTB trail system plan for Gurney Lane and Hudson Pointe. In 2014 Wilderness Property Management trail crew began hand building the first two MTB trails, Home Page and Twitter. Today there are over 13 miles of mountain bike trails and a MTB skills park at Gurney.

WPM Trails keeps on coming back to this favorite MTB park to add bike trails, upgrade existing bike trails (bigger berms), and added features to the skills park. This summer WPM created a new machine built trail, Esculator, a one way climbing trail that allowed Coaster to become a dedicated one way down ride. A bridge was added to Rouge Extension to make this fast flow trail even more fun.

A new family-friendly surfaced nature trail (short and sweet) with three new bridges was also designed and constructed by WPM Trails this summer.

Three years ago Wilderness Property Management Inc. was honored to receive a 2015 Wild Stewardship award from Adirondack Wild: Friends of the Forest Preserve for constructing trails and bridges specifically designed for the wilderness.

In 2016 WPM Inc. designed and constructed an 85 ft. long wilderness type rustic log bridge to replace an existing dilapidated pressure treated bridge. The new bridge was built entirely with trees harvested on-site and designed to maintain the wilderness character of this remote Adirondack area.

WPM Trails completed the North Creek Station Trail this week. This new machine- built surfaced trail along the beautiful North Creek and Hudson River connects the community from the Historic North Creek Railroad Station and Riverfront Park on the north end to the Tannery Pond Community Center on the south end of town. Starting at the Riverfront Trail’s Hudson River Outlook, the North Creek Station Trail runs next to the railroad tracks at the confluence of the Hudson River and North Creek. Passing under the railroad trestle, the trail winds along North Creek to the Tannery Pond Community Center. Benches provide places to take in the idyllic view of North Creek! The trail ends behind the Town of Johnsburg Library at the Carol Thomas Trail and Ski Bowl Park Trail system kiosk. This is a great way to take in the scenery while visiting North Creek!

Our Story

Wilderness Property Management Inc. (WPM Inc./WPM Trails) was formed in February 2012 by Steve Ovitt, a former New York State Forest Ranger and an avid outdoorsman. In 2013, his wife Sylvia Ovitt joined him in the business. Together they grew WPM to include trail technicians so they could provide expanded trail and bridge construction services in addition to outdoor recreation consulting.

WPM has built over 50 miles of biking, hiking, skiing, and nature trails since its inception. They have also developed recreation plans and assessments for the development of outdoor recreational opportunities for public entities and private landowners.

WPM excels at creating exceptional outdoor experiences tailored specifically for the unique environmental site and interests of each client.

“A trail or path should be something more than a hole through the woods!” WPM Inc.
