I share this story every year on this day, and every year it takes me back to those moments, that day, the loss, the indescribable uncertainty of it all...and the way this great and blessed nation came together and stood back up as one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Feel free to share your stories of this day in the comments.
25 years ago today I signed out of my Chassis Fab and High Performance Engines class at Wyotech in Laramie Wyoming to get a sheet I needed for class from my apartment. No one in the building had a radio or TV on. By the time I got back to the parking lot the news that the first tower had fallen was just hitting. I told Matt (our instructor and a NYC native) we needed to turn on the radio. His response was "We don't listen to the radio in class Price", then I told him what was happening and I will never forget the look on his face when I said one of the towers had fallen. He didn't say another word, he just reached for the radio, he didn't say another word all day...to anyone that I heard. Of all the people I saw react to the news, none embodied the feelings of our nation that day more that the look on the face of a NYC native so far from home. You could see the helplessness in his eyes, I watched as he turned on the radio and listened, I watched his heart break for his city and it's people. I have not forgotten, I will never forget. RIP to all the innocent, the hero's, and the broken hearts of 9/11/01.
It's been 25 yrs, and for those of us who lived that day we can all, without exception, tell you a story of that day. Where we were, who we were with, what we were doing, how we felt, that day is burned into our hearts and minds. Why is it today some act like it didn't happen, like Islamic hate didn't rain Hell down on America that day, like America didn't stand back up United, like the country didn't fly more red white and blue than ever before. I ask that we all REMEMBER it, let yourself FEEL it again today because that's what remembering it really is.
Remembrance,
Respect,
Honor.
