The two questions we’ve been asked a lot lately are…Are you open yet?…and…What are your hours?
So, I thought I’d explain a little about how a flower farm works!
Unlike garden centers, where flowering plants are grown in greenhouses and brought in ready to bloom, most of the flowers at Blooming Acre Flower Farm are grown right here from tiny seeds started indoors in March/April or planted directly into our field.
Our flowers follow Mother Nature’s timeline, and this spring she gave us a really late start with a frost on May 20th and then extremely hot windy temps the following week that not all seedlings survived.
The seeds we planted this spring are busy growing strong roots and healthy plants before they begin producing the beautiful blooms you’ll see later this summer.
Currently, you would see lots of weeds and green in the field. The plants are hard at work preparing for months of flowers ahead.
We aren’t open for U-Pick just yet, but we promise the wait will be worth it. Soon the field will be bursting with zinnias, cosmos, sunflowers, dahlias, and so many other beautiful blooms.
Thank you for your excitement and support as we grow this season’s flowers from the ground up. Stay tuned for bloom updates and our official opening date - it will be sometime the beginning of July! 🌸
The first two pictures show what things look like now, and the last few show what it will look like when you come visit. What a difference we will see in about 3 weeks!
