Caring for lawns, clearing away storm branches and debris, cutting brush and hauling it off -- we're staying busy and loving it.

Cutting grass and making nice clean edges are the heart of our passion for your lawn.

We're in midsummer, so for now it's cruise control til Fall weed-n-feed season.

That was the neighbor's advice, when great-grandpa was grumbling about how the kids were tearing up the lawn.

Great-grandpa loved his children (and his grandchildren!), but he also loved a well cultivated lawn.

His neighbor was right, in a sense: First things first, people are more important than grass, and there's no point in crying about the inevitable.

I love this line from Harmon “The Killer” Killebrew’s MLB Hall of Fame induction speech.

It’s absolutely true: beautiful lawns are not an end in themselves.

A thriving family is the end.

Beautiful lawns are a means to that end. For playing catch. For roaming barefoot. For kicking balls and catching fireflies and running through the sprinkler.

A healthy lawn is a productive lawn.

Productive for raising boys and girls, who become men and women, who become Hall of Fame sluggers.

"Less noise and more green..." - Tolkien

This is a scrap of a line from The Hobbit, which grabbed us and still hasn't let go.

Our world is full of noise. It comes with high density urban areas. Much of the noise is the evidence of thriving and prosperity: busy highways, powerful infrastructure, even emergency sirens mean real people are being served. We should be thankful for jet airplanes and freeways and ambulances and fire trucks and police cruisers (and the first responders who fill them).

But we need spaces of quiet. Spaces that are green. We do need less "noise."

Why are we drawn to this vocation of lawn care?

It might have something to do with the way we saw our dad and grandpa serving his neighbors.

There was a strip of public land near our home which never got mowed.

So dad just mowed it. Nobody asked him to. Nobody thanked him for doing it.

Why did he do it?

Because it made the neighborhood a nicer place to live.

We want to carry that legacy forward.
