Our Mallick Mechanical Team recently faced a unique challenge when attempting to place Roof Curbs for our Mechanical Equipment at one of our projects.

With this 155,000 -sf. building maintaining 40-ft. walls, Mallick Mechanical had to coordinate a crane large enough to reach over the walls and across the facility to place a few miscellaneous curbs, equipment supports and 8 Roof Curbs -- the farthest of which was located 260 ft. from the crane's base!

Though the pick wasn't associated with a ton of weight, our Mallick Mechanical Team did an excellent job at forecasting this unique challenge ahead of time, identifying a way to overcome it, and keeping the project on schedule.

We have an exciting update from our Reston Row OB4 project! We're pleased to share that the building's Mechanical Equipment has been successfully delivered and rigged.

Recently, our skilled Mallick Mechanical Team coordinated the crane pick and expertly placed two 22,000-lb. Air-Cooled Chillers and two 22,000-lb. DOAS Units on the roof of the impressive 320,000-sf. office building. Despite the challenges of working on a large job site with multiple projects nearby, our team ensured that everything went smoothly and the equipment was delivered on time and placed with precision.

Now, our dedicated Mallick Team will shift their focus to connecting the piping for the equipment. This crucial step will enable both the Air-Cooled Chillers and DOAS units to efficiently serve the building's tenants.

We're eager to keep you updated on the progress of the Mechanical Room. Stay tuned for more updates on this unique project!

Our Safety Culture was on full display recently when our team dedicated a portion of their Saturday to earn their Forklift and Scissor Lift Certifications. The training they received from our incredible Safety Team will ensure our Mallick Team and other project members remain safe on the job when operating these pieces of equipment.

There's no better way to celebrate our team's certifications and phenomenal turnout than by ending the day with a delicious cookout 🍔

We cannot express how grateful we are for our Mallick Team's dedication to Safety👷👷‍♀️

We are thrilled to share an update on the three Water Bottle Fillers we built for the Comstock Reston Row District job in collaboration with James G. Davis Construction (DAVIS). Last year, the bottle fillers logged a cumulative 87,000 water bottles saved on the job site! 💧

We recently transported all three back to our fabrication shop to perform routine maintenance and upgrades to prepare them for the upcoming summer months. ☀️

Our Fab Shop Team’s refurbishments included:

- Repairing latches to the bottle filler access doors
- ID tagging each filler for tracking purposes
- Adding hardware to further secure equipment/piping/wiring within the body of the fillers
- Cleaning and replacing filters and tanks
- Adding our proud Mallick logo to the side panels

Our Mallick Team is turning their attention to interior work in OB4, West Garage, VIDA, and the Jewel Box, and we are proud that these fillers can support each project and other Reston Row District projects such as the JW Marriott and the future OB5 and RB5 buildings. 🚰

04/27/2023

With our Mallick Mechanical Team, we view having a knowledgeable and detail-oriented VDC and Fabrication Team effectively working together as an advantage - especially on our recent Chilled Water Pump Skids for the Reston Row OB4 central mechanical plant.

Mallick Mechanical produced two Chilled Water Pump Skids with two inline pumps on each. Our VDC, Fabrication, and Project Management teams collaborated with vendors and project partners to ensure the design was accurate and would maximize efficiency.

Learning from our prior experience with these types of pump skids, our fabrication team introduced a new approach to production. Instead of building a frame for the pump skid and working around it, the Mallick Fabrication team began their work at the base and worked vertically. This allowed them to work more efficiently and easily provide additional support to the inline pumps to prevent any shifting during transportation.

The Fabrication Team also included the expansion tank and the chemical pot feeder on each skid, allowing our OB4 Field Team to quickly pipe in the skids once rigged and placed.

Incredible work, Mallick Team! 👏 🔧

Mallick Mechanical is proud to announce the recent addition of the HVAC & Plumbing Scope for Leonard Hall at American University.

The 8-story dormitory will be revamped and remodeled into a modernized look for the approximately 275 student residents housed there yearly.

Mallick Mechanical will be upgrading the single-use restrooms on floor one and the shared restrooms on floors 2-8, which include new showers, sinks and toilets.

Mallick Mechanical will also supply new mechanical equipment, including three new air handling units – which will serve the lobby, shared spaces and office spaces on the dormitory’s main level - one heat exchanger, two hydronic pumps and a duplex booster pump.

We are very excited to partner with Donohoe Construction on this challenging Washington DC Summer Project. 👏

When problems are identified on a project, Mallick Mechanical meets them with options and solutions - just as we recently did with our Century Center occupied office renovation project.

Early into the project, a few existing complications were identified, including: faulty risers, failing isolation valves, no riser clamps for piping support, the riser material was discovered as steel instead of the anticipated copper and a dielectric situation was also located as the branch connections to the existing fan coil units.

To provide the best solution to the owner and the least impactful installation to the existing tenants, Mallick Mechanical proposed the following:

- Utilize Apollo Powerpress Fittings - This install method minimizes system downtime, impact on tenants and any potential of setting off any fire alarms

- Custom Riser Clamp Stands: Mallick Mechanical received confirmation to provide code-compliant support for the piping before cutting in isolation valves while not disrupting the existing fan coil branch lines.

- Replacement of the Risers: It was determined by Mallick Mechanical and other project partners that the building's risers had an estimated life of 4 years remaining. Multiple existing issues were resolved by replacing the risers with steel piping to match the existing mains.

As a Proactive measure, Mallick Mechanical is also labeling each system with a different color tape, allowing proper system identification as they begin to tie in the new Fan Coil lines.

There's still a lot of work to be done - but our Mallick Team has positioned us in an excellent position by helping identify the problems and implementing the solutions. Great Job, Mallick Team!

Before onsite work begins at our 600 5th Street Office project, Clark Construction and our Mallick Project Team held a submittal party to expedite the approval of submittals and anticipate any and all potential design/coordination issues.

By hosting the submittal party, which involved other trades, the Design Team, and Representation from Ownership, Clark Construction helped us execute our core values at the beginning of this collaborative project:

Performance Driven – Our submittals were accurately prepared ahead of time by our Mallick Project Management team, providing all Submital Party Attendees with detailed information to bring any attention to areas of interest, come to any resolutions and create a plan moving forward

Proactive – Our submittals clearly defined expected Design Intent, while offering suggestions to potential coordination issues. All product data and potential solutions were provided with feedback from our subcontractors and vendors that brought clarity to any potential lead time/scheduling issues.

Cooperative – Our submittals were transparent in potential issues with other trades, which were immediately reconciled by the design team.

Solution Providers – Our submittals clearly defined potential issues while offering two to three solutions to overcome each potential issue. All representatives at the Submital Party were very receptive to this attention to detail

Our Mallick Team takes great pride in providing the most accurate and detailed submittals possible, to provide proactive lead times while adhering to the design intent and customer’s expectations. We're glad we had the opportunity to accomplish that during the Submital Party.

One of the most exciting aspects of our Douglas MacArthur project is the implementation of the HDPE Piping our team is installing.

The Elementary School is receiving this for most of its hydronic piping and should provide it with a long-term solution due to its durability and resistance to corrosion.

For this project, our dedicated team fabricates most of the pipe lengths at our fabrication shop and delivers them to the job site. From there, the HDPE is easily installed and connected with couplings, leading to less time needed for on-site installation.

Excellent workmanship and dedication from our Mallick Team! Keep it up!

COSS® is a training program designed by safety professionals for the entry level person, or for the experienced safety person who needs a refresher on safety. Its main objective is to equip employees who have safety and health responsibilities, with the core competencies they must master to be successful in occupational safety and health. The COSS® Program provides students with focused and relevant content that is enforced with concentrated learning activities. Unlike other safety designations, where there is no training involved, the curriculum-based format of the COSS® Program involves hands-on, in-class, instructor-led training. Students testify to the value of the training they receive; instead of simply “testing into the designation”, they feel like they worked hard to earn it. Learn More about COSS Training here.

SEE, Inc. has added the COSS training to its internal core training for all safety staff. If your job is dealing with safety or HR in any way, this class is for you. This is a one week intensive training class to make you a better safety person or give you a strong start in safety.

Each student will receive the student kit on the first day of class. The kit includes the following items:

COSS Padfolio with pen and calculator
COSS Copyrighted Student Workbook
29 CFR 1910 (General Industry)
29 CRF 1926 (Construction)
COSS Student Textbook, Fundamentals of Occupational Safety and Health
COSS Embroidered Saddlebag
Each graduating student receives a COSS certificate mounted on a wooden plaque

Cost:
SEE, Inc. Clients: $1,799
Non-SEE, Inc. Clients: $1,899

Lets go through my thinking process when I was asked if I should take the COSS class. I have been doing this for many years and I teach the 100 hour CSST class. What is a 40 hour class going to teach me? Answer is PLENTY!

“I wish I had this class when I started in safety in the late 90’s. I have had people that have been in the safety industry from a few weeks to one gentleman that had been in safety for almost 40 years. This class teaches everyone at least something. I had one student describe it to me during a class on a Tuesday it was like taking a drink from a fire hose of information, and by Thursday he said he was impressed at how confident he felt in knowing the information. This is much more than another safety credential this is an actual class that teaches a lot about the industry that you don’t learn in any other class I have ever been in. The training taught me new ways to attack issues, it also taught me to be a much better safety professional. I can tell you here at SEE, Inc. we believe in it so much we have added it into our required curriculum for all of our new hires in the field. It has taken our entire staff up a few levels and clients really see the difference. It’s not just about what OSHA says, it answers a lot of the why and how questions. I have checked back with students and gotten great success stories Some where just given safety as one of their responsibilities, some were HR directors, and some were seasoned safety veterans that all said they took what they learned back and applied this skills to their jobs and got great responses.” Matt Murphy, President SEE Inc.

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS:
“I had been in a construction safety position for 15 years before taking the COSS class; this class took my knowledge of safety to a whole different level. I recommend this class for the entry level safety person all the way up to the most seasoned safety professional.” Richard Ennis, Ennis Electric Company, Inc.

“The COSS class was an excellent course in the sense that after over 10 years in the safety business I learned many new things. Matt Murphy is an excellent instructor as he guides you through the compliance moments as if you were in a real life scenario. I would recommend the COSS class to any seasoned or aspiring safety professional” Bill Drexel, Scaffold Resources

“You can teach an old dog new tricks! Taking the COSS class was a great refresher. I was able to walk away with a vision of where I need to take our Safety program, and how to better deal with our employees.” C. T. Butler, Director of Human Resources And Safety Management S.W. Rodgers

“COSS was by far the most intense safety course I’ve ever taken! The course materials were very comprehensive and I have referred back to them many times since the course. My instructor Matt Murphy was excellent and very knowledgeable and he presented the information in a way that made it enjoyable and easier to learn and understand. It was awesome to gain such a large amount of knowledge in a short period of time. It gave me such a feeling of accomplishment to earn my COSS certificate and as a result I feel more confident and knowledgeable in my position. I would highly recommend this course to all safety professionals!!” Lisa Fox, COSS Certified Occupational Safety Specialist Payroll/Accounting Specialist

This month eight years ago, the Harlem Shake dance took over the internet. Our up and coming Assistant Project Managers and Project Engineer jumped on the bandwagon. So where are they now?

James Glass received a promotion to Project Manager and now is a Sr. Project Manager in our Special Projects Department. He also took home a cool $1,000 for winning our lean construction competition. James developed an app that helps our employees submit daily reports and receipts to accounting on-the-go.

Rodrigo Antezana was promoted Project Manager in our Construction Department, expanding his portfolio to include new universities, schools, office buildings, and renovation projects. One of his projects, Fannie Mae Headquarters, took home an Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Metro Washington Excellence in Construction Award.

TJ Breslin moved onto a Project Manager role with our friendly competitor, Mallick Mechanical Contractors Inc

I have been an employee for this company for almost a year after being with my previous company for almost 13 years and never have I been treated with the amount of respect and kindness I’ve received from Kenny Mallick and the rest of our crew. Currently my wife and I are dealing with some complications of our recent born baby boy and the Mallick family has reached out to me daily to see if they can assist during this time. It is truly a blessing to have that kind of relationship with your employer and reaffirms that my decision to join this company was the best decision I could have made!!! Thanks again Kenny and the rest of crew for reaching out, you have no idea how much I appreciate it. Hope to see you guys very soon!!!
