Stormwater Management (SWM) Regulations require all developments disturbing more than 5,000 square feet to comply with Best Management Practices (BMP's) through Environmental Site Design (ESD). This includes Single Lot Residential developments that may already have an existing stormwater pond that was built under the "old" stormwater regulations. So you want to build a house on your lot, or you are a builder currently building homes within a subdivision. You apply for your building permit, only to be told that you must first address (SWM) since you will be disturbing more than 5,000 square feet. Welcome to the world of cleaning up the Chesapeake Bay !! The State of Maryland has required builders to address SWM for single lot development for several years; and now, Berkeley and Jefferson County, West Virginia have adopted these same Maryland SWM standards. B & R Design Group has years of experience providing builders with SWM plans for single lot developments to keep their building permit process moving forward. We will determine the most cost effective solution to meeting the ESD treatment requirements. Our expert staff will evaluate the use of credits to the fullest extent to minimize the need to construct structural practices, and when all options have been exhausted, B & R Design will provide an economical design solution that will integrate the BMP with the proposed construction. B & R Design Group will work with your architect and your builder to process the plan submittals through the approving agency.

Bill Brennan was selected by the Frederick County Home Builders to participate on the Committee to review the Frederick County Stormwater Management Ordinance. The Committee will make recommendation to the Frederick County Community Development Division (CDD) in areas to improve the Ordinance and it's compliance with State SWM Regulations.

Rick Curry participated as a member of the Region 9 Steering Committee to develop a Model Stormwater Management Ordinance. Stakeholders from various planning agencies, government representatives, engineers, attorneys, etc., from throughout the region met over an eleven month period to formulate ideas and create the Model Ordinance.
