Sometimes you don’t get to paint before you set the floors.

That part can be completely out of your control—but that doesn’t mean you take shortcuts.

This home got full flooring protection before a brush ever touched the wall. No risks, no “we’ll be careful,” no hoping for the best. Just doing it the right way.

A beautiful coat of Sherwin-Williams Greek Villa on the walls — one of the cleanest, warm whites out there. It’s a stunning color that brightens the whole space without feeling cold.

Finished off with Pure White semi-gloss trim to make everything pop.

Sometimes the order of operations changes. The standard of the work never does.

Started a new job this week fixing what the previous contractor left behind. Unfortunately the homeowner paid for work that just wasn’t done right, so we’re getting things back on track.

The half bath is about 90% finished now—just waiting on the mirror to wrap it up.

But when we first walked in… there were a few head-scratchers:

🪚 Trim work that was incomplete and cut pretty rough
🚽 The toilet fl**ge had been cut off… (still trying to figure out the strategy behind that one 🤔)
🚪 A bathroom door frame installed… with no door. Just the frame. (Another head scratcher!)

Next we’re moving into the front rooms: trim and paint first, then on to new flooring in the living room and kitchen.

Situations like this are frustrating for homeowners, but sadly they happen more often than people think.

A few simple red flags you can sometimes spot early when a contractor shows up:

🚩 Beat up or inadequate tools — pros usually take care of the tools they rely on

🚩 No basic equipment and constant runs to the store because nothing was planned

🚩 A truck or van that looks like a tornado lives in it — organization usually shows up in the work too

🚩 Poor communication or constantly changing the plan

🚩 Large upfront payment requests — deposits, or phased billing are normal for materials and scheduling, but asking for most or all of the money upfront is unprofessional

None of these things alone automatically mean someone is a bad contractor… but often the little things tell you a lot about the bigger ones.

I don’t usually take on smaller projects like installing a simple shower door, but this one came about because a repeat customer shared my name with someone who needed help. That kind of referral means a lot to me!

At the end of the day, this business is built on relationships and trust. Sometimes the “small” jobs are just another opportunity to take care of people—and you never know where those connections might lead.
