Properly maintained sprinkler system saves...

“If this would not have been a sprinkled building or had that system been compromised in any way, it would have been a different story,” said Williamson County Fire Marshal Battalion Chief Dennis Kincheloe.

Sprinklers played a key role in saving lives during a fire at a senior living center in Round Rock, TX! No one was seriously injured during the three-alarm fire thanks to sprinklers helping to keep the flames in check! #SprinklerSaves

You will always have a job with a trade

Vocational and technical education tends to cost significantly less than a traditional four-year degree.

There is $1.5 trillion in student debt outstanding as of 2018, according to the Federal Reserve. Four in 10 adults under the age of 30 have student-loan debt, according to the Pew Research Center. Earning potential does not always offset the cost of these loans, and only two-thirds of those with degrees think that the debt was worth it for the education they received.

AFSA offers a four-year apprenticeship training course for those interested in the high-growth fire sprinkler industry. Get paid to learn while you earn. Details at firesprinkler.org. 👷‍♂️👩‍🔧🧯🔧🔥💦💰💵

Random Fact of the day:
The first automatic fire extinguishing system on record was made in England in 1723. It was made of a cask of water, a chamber of gunpowder, and some fuses.

Random Fact of the day:
Henry S. Parmalee invented the automatic fire sprinkler in 1864 because he wanted to protect his piano factory.

The team is aiming to minimize disruption of the building’s historic fabric. For example, instead of demolishing some ceiling cornices and building larger ones to accommodate sprinkler pipes, subcontractors Strickland Fire Protection, Inc. - Founded in 1983 & EverGreene Architectural Arts snaked sprinkler pipe into one existing cornice to maintain the original sight lines and decorative plaster ceiling patterns in the new “teen room.” Workers removed small cornice sections every few feet to fit pipes inside. They punched out holes for sprinkler heads and patched the cut sections to make the cornice appear to be one continuous piece. “It’s about thinking beyond the architectural documents to find alternative ways,” says Kim Lovejoy, EverGreene Senior Business Developer.

Random Fact of the Day:
Did you know movies tend to give very inaccurate depictions of sprinkler systems? When a fire occurs, it doesn’t cause every sprinkler in the building to go off, only the one or two in the immediate area of the fire.

Random Fact of the Day:
Most fire sprinkler systems are designed to control or contain the fire, not fully extinguish it.

12/13/2017

Random Fact of the Day:
Did you know that when someone blows out a candle, they are actually blowing the flame hard enough to move it off the fuel source? Since the flame is then no longer close enough to the fuel, it goes out.

12/12/2017

Random fact of the day:
Did you know it is much better to extinguish a grease fire with baking soda or sand rather than covering it with a lid? A lid will put out the fire but also vacuum seal to the pan rendering both useless.

Remember to exercise extreme caution and keep water away from a grease fire.

Weekly Fire Sprinkler Protection Myth Buster!

Myth: "I'm in a new building, it's a lot safer. I have nothing to worry about!"

Fact: Newer homes are far more susceptible to serious fire damage and burn up to eight times faster than older homes, due to modern construction techniques. Why not begin protecting a building and the community now with a sprinkler system? It will be an older building eventually!

Weekly Fire Sprinkler Protection Myth Buster!

Myth: "The added cost of sprinklers will make housing not affordable."

Fact: Adding a sprinkler system costs about the same amount as a carpet upgrade, paved stone driveway or that brand new, sparkling, whirlpool bath. That is one to two percent of the total construction costs. Also, consumers are constantly looking for houses with sprinkler systems, making the house perfect for resell!

Weekly Fire Sprinkler Protection Myth Buster!

Myth: "Sprinklers can easily be activated on accident."

Fact: There's a common misconception that sprinkles can accidentally be activated, especially by excessive smoke. Research has shown that only 1 in 16 million heads ever activate on accident. Sprinklers, also, cannot be activated by anything other than fire, which forces the heat to rise beyond the sprinkler's trigger point.

Weekly Fire Sprinkler Protection Myth Buster!

Myth: "Sprinklers steal water from the fire department hoselines"

Fact: A properly designed sprinkler system (for commercial structures) includes water supplies for the system AND fire department hose streams. Enough water for everyone!

Weekly Fire Sprinkler Protection Myth Buster!

Myth: "Sprinklers are designed to protect the property. They are not effective for life safety."

Fact: Sprinklers are HIGHLY effective for both life safety and property protection! Statistics show that there has never been any multiple loss of life in a building with a full sprinkler system. Combining automatic sprinklers and early warning systems in all buildings could reduce overall injuries, loss of life and property damage by at least 50%.
