Most people see a beautiful outdoor fireplace.
I see the reason it had to be built—and everything underneath it that nobody will ever see.
Following a life-changing accident, the homeowner needed a backyard she could move through more comfortably and safely. The problem was that the area selected for the fireplace sat beside a steep backyard drop-off. It wasn’t simply a matter of laying a patio and stacking stone.
Several contractors didn’t want to take on the project.
I did.
I brought in a structural engineer, and we developed a plan to raise and stabilize the area properly. The foundation required 42 concrete piers, each approximately 18 inches in diameter and extending between 14 and 22 feet into the ground.
Only after completing that hidden structural work could we begin constructing what people see today.
I personally designed the fireplace and directed its construction. We also built the long pathways connecting the home to the new outdoor space, creating a yard the homeowner could actually reach and enjoy.
When the project was completed, the homeowners were so happy that they invited me to the inauguration of their new backyard. That invitation meant a great deal to me.
This remains one of the projects I’m proudest of—not only because of the craftsmanship, but because it was built for a purpose.
At True Nature Landscape, the strongest part of our work is often the part you never see.
