In 1985 a guy by the name of Les Anderson caught the world record king salmon on the Kenai River weighing a staggering 97pounds 4 ounces. Since then the tourist began flocking to the river to try their hand at catching a monster. Over the years the tourists keep growing and growing with no limits by the State of Alaska on how many people can fish the pristine Kenai River. Now the Alaska Fish and Game have tried to blame the Setnet fishermen for the decline. The first few years they tried to limit them on how many nets and how many days they could fish. That didn’t help the amount of kings returning to spawn. Then the State completely stopped the setnet fisherman all together. There is still a low return of kings after years of this. Since the cycle of a king salmon is 3-5 years from being hatched in the river to then returning to the river to spawn, why have the numbers not increased significantly. I feel it’s because of the amount of tourists allowed on the river that is slowly destroying the returns of Kings and other species. The State of Alaska needs to take a hard look at what is really happening and they need to put a limit on sport fisherman and tourist allowed in the river and they need to stop the trawlers from catching thousands of salmon and then discarding them as bycatch. Let me know what you all think about this.

Got the boat on blocks and the gear all wrapped up for the winter. I get sad about this time of the season when the boat goes into storage an I have to head back to the construction world . Already looking forward to next season. I hope everyone had fun this season. I know we sure did.

It's more than just a job out here in the Cook Inlet—it's a calling. ⚓☕ When the nets are heavy and the crew is tired, we remember the families we're feeding across the world. Grateful for this life.

She doesn't touch the wheel, but she keeps a watchful eye on everything we do out here.

People always ask what it takes to survive a commercial salmon season in the Cook Inlet. It’s not just the boat and the nets—it’s the coffee, the grit, and the crew. ⚓☕ What’s the one thing you can’t live without when you’re out on the water?
