Kids are officially back to school!
While it might be a relief to have you r young ones out of the house for the day, they can come back with treasures from school you wouldn't expect.

We've seen it all at Garvin's, vapes, cell phones, toy cars, wash rags, pencils. Anything that can fit into your pipes will surely try it's best to end up there. Of course, all these examples are obvious no no's for going down the drain but what about the less obvious?

I'm sure it might seem like napkins and paper towels are close enough to toilet paper that they can safely go down your toilet, right? Wrong! đź™… While paper towels and napkins do break down EVENTUALLY, they can cause backups very quickly!
But what about "flushable" wipes? They say right there on the package they are flushable, but all that means is they can physically make it down the toilet. Wipes are one of the most common causes of clogs that we see and you'd have no idea! These wipes also don't break down despite claims they can be flushed.

It's Hump Day, let's all seize the day!

Today our of the day is to know where your water main shut off is!

It's important in an emergency situation to know where and how to turn the water off to your home. If a fixture in your home breaks or you find a leak has turned into a flood, knowing how to stop water flow is crucial.
Most often these shut offs are outside on the side of your home or in the basement. Some take special keys or tools to turn on and off and its always good knowledge to have!
If you see a leak getting out of hand and don't know where your shut off is, you can call you r city and they can turn it off for you for free!

Nobody's favorite place is the doctor's or the dentist's office. That doesn't scare Garvin's Plumbing and Sewer however....

That doesn't scare Garvin's Plumbing and Sewer however. We want to take this Wednesday to bring light to something you likely wouldn't think of!

We are plumbers, of course we're used to smells!

But what a lot of folks don't realize it that when you call us for an unidentified smell in your home, those are the hardest jobs to diagnose. Simply experiencing a smell in and of itself, turns into a deep dive of several different potential causes or sources.

A smell could be a back-up, cracked pipes, a problem with venting or something as simple as a dry P-trap.

The best thing you can do as a homeowner with a smell concern is to first identify what you were doing when you noticed the smell. Were you running a load of laundry? How about starting the dishwasher? Had you just taken a shower or flushed a toilet?

The most helpful information to a technician when all they know is "there's a smell" is the what, when and where. While smells are incredibly hard to diagnose on their own, the more context the better!

They may be difficult but not impossible. The technician might have to become a bit of a Stink Detective🕵🏼‍♂️, but trust that at Garvin's we will try several different options before throwing in the towel.

Why would a restaurant owner need a reliable plumber?

When you think about , you often think about the food, the ambience or the location. The last thing you're considering is the dish pit. The plumbing.

Despite it being the last thing on your mind, the plumbing in restaurants take beatings every day. Whether it's the front facing restrooms or the back of house dish sinks, the pipes are taking high volume use. When backups happen in restaurants it can slow or stop business and that's expensive!

Your plumbing and gas lines aren't after thoughts!

Not everyone knows this but Garvin's does gas lines as well as plumbing and BOTH can be dangerous if not done properly! Leaking sewers and gas lines can jeopardize your health and the air quality in your home.

We want to share some knowledge today on how to recognize a gas leak in your home.
1) Smell- by now most are aware that gas has been treated with mercaptan which makes it smell like rotten eggs. If you smell sulfur or an eggy smell you could have a gas leak
2)Sound- sometimes you can hear a hissing or whistling sound coming from appliance connections or pushing through a crack in the pipes
3)Sight- if pipes are visibly rusted, bent, dented or worn down that can cause leaks. If you have house plants that slowly decay when near the gas lines, that can be an indicator of a leak as well!
4)Feel- if you or your family has extended bouts of headaches, nausea, dizziness and/or fatigue that are unexplained by anything else maybe consider a gas leak.

At Garvin's Plumbing and Sewer, we've been family owned for over 85 years, that's almost 4 generations!

Because we have been around so long, we know how important it is to reintroduce ourselves every once in a while!
Garvin’s Plumbing and Sewer began as Garvin’s Sewer Service in 1940 — Denver’s first professional drain-cleaning company. Founded by Russell P. Garvin, Garvin’s was passed to his great-nephew, Kenneth Aston in 1992. Currently, Kenneth’s daughters run the day-to-day operations, making it a 3rd generation company.

Garvin’s spent several decades in the Golden Triangle district of Denver, near the Capital. In 2001, we expanded greatly and moved operations to Englewood where we could have a warehouse for supplies and offices to fit the growing staff. Today, we have over 30 staff who service the greater Denver area, including most areas within a one-hour drive of Denver.

We believe that customers have the right to expect fast, efficient service and that our service will be done by employees who are knowledgeable, polite and neat. We treat our customers with respect to achieve a long and productive relationship upon which they can rely. We’re dedicated to maintaining the integrity of the Garvin’s name.

We've been cleaning drains, not bank accounts for decades and it shows through our loyal customer based and continued success.
