In celebration of Earth Day, we are proud to highlight our recent large-scale balsam reduction project that aimed to minimize fire risk and enhance forest health. The 'lop and scatter' treatment method was employed across the entire swampy area, a gentle & eco-friendly approach that carefully cuts dead trees into small sections and disperses them to lie just above ground level. Notably, many white pine saplings were preserved, including the one shown, which was such a gratifying aspect of the project! 🌏

With dry conditions, gusty winds, and low humidity, the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for 66 counties in Minnesota for today, April 20, until 8 p.m.

While the Red Flag warning is in effect:
🚫Don’t burn brush and yard debris! Escaped fire from debris burning is the #1 cause of wildfires in Minnesota.
☑️Check any recent burning, including campfires, to ensure the fire is out COLD!
⚠️Campfires are strongly discouraged during the Red Flag.
‼️Be safe with ANY heat source that could cause a spark.

In these conditions, any spark could easily cause a wildfire that spreads quickly. Remember, you can prevent wildfires by following prevention tips! If you see a wildfire, get to a safe location and call 911 right away.

To reduce the risk of unintentional wildfires, the first spring burning restrictions are now in place. With warmer temperatures and dry conditions, fire season has begun in parts of Minnesota.
The state will not issue burning permits for the burning of brush or yard waste in the following counties:
Aitkin, Anoka, Beltrami South, Benton, Cass, Chisago, Clay, Crow Wing, Douglas, Grant, Hennepin, Hubbard, Isanti, Itasca, Kanabec, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Norman, Otter Tail, Pine, Pope, Ramsey, Sherburne, Stearns, Stevens, Todd, Traverse, Wadena, Washington, Wilkin, and Wright.
Escaped debris burning is the #1 cause of wildfires in the state. Minnesota experiences the most wildfires in spring. Restricting this type of burning in spring has helped reduce wildfires by 30%.
Burning restrictions will be updated as conditions change.
